@f0x Yeah, I may boost without thinking sometimes but I accept responsibility for that and try my best to go and check the person's vibes, especially when I notice comments after the fact that weren't visible because of our very thorough suspend list
Say, I wonder how much info about replies is actually relayed back to the server, to see if there is a way to add "Reply from suspended account/instance" placeholders to a thread
@codl I suppose that's what the groups feature could theoretically address but it's also terribly implemented and pushes homogenization into spaces that pride themselves on distinction

Just as a general thang
For those running instances:
It's valid to close registrations during the wave if you don't feel like you have the energy to keep an eye out on the flood of new folks coming in
It's perfectly fine to admit that moderation isn't ready to handle a scaled up community and to hold off the growth surge.
It's fine to make decisions to prioritize the safety and rep of your existing community members and take time to vet the new applicants.

Moderating properly is expensive, in terms of energy. Being aware of who is using your services, and being able and ready to have the energy to remove those acting to harm others is crucial to keep your community, and other communities safe.
And if it's too much, it's entirely valid to admit it's too much and take steps to make things easier. it's better than burning yourself out trying to handle everything.
@jaycie Thinking about it, in my case I have always primarily used it as an online communication device, so I wouldn't miss much if I'm on the same services another way.
I'd get really, really bored without any of the access related to it, even via computer, but as long as my loved ones know I'm okay beforehand, it'd not actually cause me any stress
