:boost_ok:, homelessness, Raleigh NC, not money asking, just help/advice

:boost_ok: :boost_ok:

So uhhhhhhhh.

My one girlfriend Viv is still facing homelessness, she's contacted the nearby shelters and mutual aid groups in Raleigh and it turns out the shelters are all full and the income support isn't enough to afford any kind of housing. She's getting kicked out of her current place regardless of money, unfortunately.

Neither of us know what to do, it seems like all the options have been explored. We're both basically just scared shitless at the moment.

If you know of any, like, shelters or anything. Or any form of housing. Or anything we can do. Literally any smidgen or glimmer of hope here would be good.

And either way retoots would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Budget VR rig w/ hand tracking set-up instructions, really long post

Okay, after doing some research I believe it will work, so if you're willing to sink around 140-160 USD into kinda scuffed VR:

first you'll need a phone with a gyroscope (IOS or Android). follow this tutorial to the point where you can make sure the software will work properly with your PC and Phone (note that the IPhone version of the app does not support wired USB connections): youtube.com/watch?v=offw_MiPKq

If the software works, you should purchase the full version in-app for 10 USD. (the trail only lasts 15 minutes of up-time)

then you need any phone-strap VR headset, a leap motion controller ( ultraleap.com/product/leap-mot ) (around 90 USD), and the VR mount. ( ultraleap.com/product/vr-devel ) (around 20 USD)

then download controller emulation drivers for the leap motion controller and install following the directions: github.com/SDraw/driver_leap (controls are listed as well)

If all goes well, you should have a working VR set-up with hand tracking for almost half the cost of a Quest (not counting the cost of your phone)

Cons:
1. 3DoF headset and low refresh rate means lots of motion sickness and your movements are not 100% translated
2. Your phone screen is probably not very high res, so everything is going to look pixelated.
3. Still requires a VR-ready PC
4. The controls are pretty wonky.
5. You may need to have a secondary controller to move around with/use menus depending on the game.
6. your hands are only tracked while near your field of vision.

Pros:
1. only ~150 USD
2. Hand tracking allows for controller emulation, so you can play most games as if you had a vive wand controller.
3. leap motion is reusable for other headsets that don't have native hand tracking.

I guess I should probably also print out a dragon to care for all these babies

it's transphobic that it's raining all week and I can't print or paint a kobold army

@fluxom_alt it's bodacious about how much it defies genre norms across genres, that's all that really can be said

WA unemployment benefits warning, please boost

WARNING:

the state of washington can, and will, legally, suddenly revoke your unemployment benefits then retroactively charge you for them, leaving you not just without income, but also in SERIOUS debt

when it happened to my boyfriend i thought it was an isolated issue, but then it happened to a friend too, and it keeps happening, so please please be careful and try to have something to fall back on other than unemployment money

My quite talented vixfriend, @starkatt made me this wonderful cross-stitch for my birthday and AAAA💙 THER-I-O-QUEER 🎶

@junebug I am pleased that I stan only Hiroto Cerna and nothing bad ever happens to zir

Financial Help Request

The boyfriend of one of my closest friends just got shafted by the State and they arbitrarily decided he retroactively did not qualify for the covid unemployment benefits he was approved for, and now owes more than $10,000 thanks to the state’s incompetence and his workplace being spiteful.

Anything helps.

re: Hideki Naganuma apology screencap

@sharkNserg @Felthry oh, yikes. I'm glad he apologized at least, but it's still symptomatic of a larger problem
