The city of Albuquerque has been a test case for police reform since the cops murdered James Boyd in 2014. The DOJ stepped in, fired many of the officers, and has forced the APD to submit to federal oversight and adopt new accountability policies for the past six years. None of it has worked.

Valente Acosta-Bustillos was killed 3 months ago.

Max Mitnik was killed 2 weeks ago.

Clifton White has spent all month in jail for protesting.

All this time we've remained one of the worst places in the country for police shootings. Nothing has changed. I hope you'll think of ABQ when people urge you to push for reforms and half measures instead of abolition.

People on masto have been taking down the bullshit reactionary arguments about how Pride is "inappropriate for children". Mads has talked about how those arguments relate to transmisogyny.

Apologies if I've missed it, but I'd like to briefly add that all these arguments are also racist, white supremacist specifically.

The hypothetical Child in these arguments, so innocent and fragile and needing of protection, is white. In reality, actual children of color, especially black children, face violence from fash and white supremacists and imperialists on all fronts. I'm going to let black people take the lead in discussing any details, but the information is out there if you look for it.

Also, at least on tumblr, while many well-meaning, good faith people may reblog "Pride is inappropriate for children" posts, the origins of the posts are fash and crypto-fash blogs. The fact that there is still hysteria about Pride parades in a year where a global pandemic has delayed parades indefinitely, indicates to me that most of these posts are a fascist, transmisogynist, racist psy-op.

Dismantle the whole idea of “high tech”. Why isn’t a sewing machine considered as high tech? How many tech-bros are able to handle a sewing machine? How many woman were and are fabricating protective masks for the pandemic by operating a sewing machine? How many provide clothes for the whole planet since centuries? Not only the work is undervalued but also their technical skills.

JUST SAY YOU DON’T SUPPORT BLACK LIVES MATTER AND LEAVE instead of finding an excuse as to why you shouldn’t care that again and again and again Black people are completely brutalised by police and police are never criminalized for it.
