i just got sent a long and heartfelt email from someone about how OCRbot helps them and how they couldn't use fedi without it

they have vision issues and can't really caption the images themselves, and rely on OCRbot to do it for them

this is the first time i've ever seen someone with a physical disability talk about OCRbot and um, it feels really special and also quite strange that so much responsibility has been placed on it and myself

Woo-hoo, fluffy, puffy snowflakes coming down!

Seriously, though. There is no excuse in 2020 to be sending HTML email. You can almost assuredly get your point across just as well with a plain text email.

Fuck HTML email.

I love how my dog sees another dog and is all like

-antagonistic dog breathing-

🐶🐶

realised I can't start fulfilling single pin orders because i forgot to do the backing card for those. Oops :v Anyway, made one now and it should be here on Thursday

I'm trying to recover some data for a friend. It has been going for at least a couple weeks, but it seems to still be making progress. I had to set up a loop to retry ddrescue every 30 seconds when the drive disappears. Earlier today it was around 44%.

Cute dog

@venusinlibra666 smol and dedicated to not using the memory foam bed I bought her

i need a moment

i just realised nope.avi is ten years old as of yesterday

honestly abolish read receipts. who needs the stress. the only purpose of a read receipt is to overthink why someone hasn’t responded to you yet but honestly “instantaneously” is not always the best time to respond to a message

all ready for fab~

rerouting it all wasn't as much work as I feared, because I already had the general ideas and techniques in my head. Also added the option for a smaller button on the front, as the Alps is quite tall

Parents let intersex child decide for herself

@maeve This should not be news. This should be the way things normally are. The fact that this is news says bad things about our society.

racism, not meta

The #1 thing white people (especially socialists and communists) do not want to be told, ever, is this:

The system benefits them on the backs of POC, and class is but a part of it.

Turning racism into a class discussion is an incomplete discussion.

Poor whites were not disenfranchised by the poll tax during Jim Crow. Poor POC were.

White people don't have their land stolen for oil, pipelines, and public works. Natives do.

White people don't have undesirable industrial projects built near them. POC do.

White people don't get to be told their HOA or city government are invalid by a single unelected official. Natives have this happen regularly with tribal recognition.

Bearing in mind the poverty line is set way too low; white people have a 9% poverty rate in the US. Blacks? 27%. Other POC don't fare much better.

So, there's this concept of "implicit feudalism" in online communities. Essentially, the vast majority of online communities - from old-school forums, to facebook groups, to large platforms like Twitter and Facebook themselves, even to fediverse instances - they're all run as dictatorships by default. It's built into the software - you'll have a top admin who has full, unconstrained power, they might delegate mods who have some limited powers, and anyone else has to listen to what these dictators and lords tell them. We talk about "federating" here in the fediverse, but each individual community - as far as I'm aware of - is a little dictatorship. A federation of dictatorships is not a free society, anymore than the UN, an international body composed of "liberal democracies" and authoritarian regimes is truly democratic. We need a way to start governing online communities through actual forms of democracy.
