@werefox hi! Wanna get coffee sometime?
"Parents of students with disabilities in Virginia public schools have won a major legal dispute, winning the right to require mask-wearing by teachers and students to help protect their children against COVID-19."
Yes! 👏👏👏
Reminder that I collect weird, whacky, and bizarre form fields related to gender collection at https://genders.wtf and would welcome people submitting more
@PetraPhoenix @3goodthings you could use in-bie as a terrible pun. Like enby crossed with in-law.
I'm not aware of a more tidy term, though.
Sad tacos
@kf my girlfriend and I ran across a place like this in a suburb of Minneapolis.
The food looked great-- rich, deep red sauce, green guacamole, whatever, right? But it was so bland that we were convinced they used only paprika in everything. We were so, so sad about it.
It all looked so good! But it just tasted like *nothing*.
My condolences.

@wgahnagl this is amazing and I would like to make one for myself. I've made cloaks before, but never ones with heating coils!
Did you use anything for a reference for your heaters?
Seating access, car mention
@t54r4n1 imagine how cool a little bench mobile would be.
Like a little scooter or something, but it's just a bench that you can chill on. Idk. I think I just want this imaginary benchmobile to be my friend. Maybe it's a bicycle that folds in some way into a bench for pals? Maybe it's more like a roomba? I dunno!
I agree that the lack of public seating is nefarious and toxic. But I would totally love to see silly accessible bench friends around to help combat this aggressive, damaging miserliness. An old car costs a thousand bucks (for a bad one) and is pretty good to sit on top of. Thirty grand is a number someone made up because they don't want them to happen.

@wgahnagl this sounds incredible. Can I learn more?
Work, Apartment, Positive, some unsolicited advice
@MerlinJStar@weirder.earth I can super relate to "kinda dumb but mostly cheerful" brain state.
If I can, I just don't push through tough brain days. I do easier stuff and take more breaks, instead. Sometimes, if I have energy for the harder stuff near the end of my work time, I do it then. If my world is making working hard, I like figuring out what my actual time tables for finishing stuff are, and being extra gentle on myself when I can. Stressing about not working wears me down a lot, so I try to avoid it.
If it's feasible for you, you might like to go for a chill little adventure for an hour or two while the noises happen, and work for a bit when ya get back instead. You might have more energy than if you'd tried to push through the disruption.
I don't mean to tell ya how to live your life, though. I definitely relate to your situation... 😅
Neurology breakthrough
Via @encelado: Brain cell cultures were able to learn the arcade game Pong.
Losing my shit.
@jennie@artisan.chat @nickferris @sewing @Curator I adore the muting effect from sheer overlay here. Gorgeous!
Unsolicited advice
@fack nah, sugar dissolves in water. You use all these, like, at the sink, just wash your hands with them like it's soap, then rinse it off.
Unsolicited advice
@fack I cannot recommend a hand scrub enough for when hands get, like, a layer of dry skin so much that lotion doesn't penetrate.
Here's a random recipe, but really, any salt and any skin safe oil should work (https://www.creeklinehouse.com/diy-gardeners-hand-scrub-mason-jar/). Especially with men, it seems like the salt (or sugar or whatever) really helps the oil penetrate better. I dunno if oily hands are better than slippery ones, though.
If you wanna buy it in a store, any old body scrub should work alright, too, but some of those have a little soap in them to help em wash off, which might not help your situation as much as one with less soap would. I like to get something really thick in a jar, especially if I can see chunks of salt or oil in it.
I also really like whipped cocoa butter for my skin, but since Glazed By Kay is not selling stuff right now, my usual shop won't help ya much. Lol

Can’t remember if I posted about my magnetic belt key clip when I designed it, but here’s it again after several months of use.
I got sick of using a carabiner that was tricky to undo with my off-hand dozens of times a day. So I designed this belt clip that’s easy to slot in or pull out one handed, but doesn’t fall out on its own unless you really try. Combined with a coiled cord that permanently keeps my keys clipped to my belt but with some slack, it means I can’t lose/drop them, they’re not weighing on my neck or getting caught on stuff, but I can get in doors while carrying stuff easily.
#tinkering
I live in the deep south and don't have any other #trans people to ask questions to. I know there is no "right way" to be trans but I have so many questions about others' experience. I think I'm gonna ask questions here since I've never seen a more supportive group of people. Please feel free to boost for visibility and feel free to let me know if I'm too much.
Incredibly thoughtful post from the mods of the kolectiva.social instance. This line in particular struck me as a good description of the challenges inherent in anti-abuse work:
“The moderator role is not so much one of an arbiter of truth, but a role that seeks to understand conflicts, assist in mediation where necessary, and to facilitate a healthy, expressive environment in alignment with our instance's values and code of conduct.”
