wow, nice thread from @nexusofprivacy who took notes on my "Trust & Safety in the Fediverse" webinar:
@fack I worry that metal might be too hot when it's hot, or lose its heat too quickly? But it's probably $5 to find out, so it might be worth it.
You may have better luck with nice little rocks you put up there n then take with ya.
@fack oh noooo 💔💔💔
I have been there. You can kinda cheat by bolstering it with baking cocoa, but it's an.. Art.
I'm so sorry for your plight.
if there is one thing that has followed me from social media platform to social media platform, it's being followed by white people who follow black folks and treat us like novelty items to collect. specifically novelty items that somehow reaffirm the idea that their online world isn't a wall of value-size mayonnaise jars at Costco.
and what's funny is they think they're being slick. when in actually it's painfully obvious.
on twitter it was obvious in its insidiousness. being put on twitter lists with titles like "race" and "PoCs to follow" "anti-racists" and other things i wouldn't ever use to describe myself, ever.
on fedi, its the weird performances in my mentions that really seal it for me.
but regardless of where i am, what remains is that i'm not seen as a person whose personhood isn't meant to exist in relation to lofty anti-racist performances on social media.
A quick thing — can you please boost?
I'm looking for an an artist to commission a character design piece for noncommercial public use. Since this piece would depict an agender character, I would love if a trans or nonbinary artist could be the one I commission!
If you know of anyone who has commissions open that seems a good fit for this, please let me know!
@kf I wonder if it'd be safer to put a little piece of felt with the lemon oil on it on the chassis of the bot so he left a little fresh trail?
Selfie, no ec, alcohol mention
@gwenprime aww, yaaay! Yeah, that stuff will stay on until tomorrow. Lol. I use an oil to remove it. Really impressive stuff, IMO. Have fun!
Selfie, no ec, alcohol mention
@gwenprime you look great. That dress is incredible! 🖤✨
No doubt the bigotry in this space is annoying. Still, in many cases, it's less annoying than Good White People™, who 'just want to understand' and badger me for information I've discussed at length, can find on their own and/or completely ignore the context of what I have already said.
The way white people just expect me to drop what I'm doing and explain the ENTIRE social and cultural context of the fedi to them FOR FREE because they are too lazy to do a shred of labor is an easy way to show me they don't give a shit.
If you want to be viewed and treated as a reasonable and intelligent person, you need to act like one.
This is not a high bar.
The racist museum of abuse thread. Read if white 🙃
@deadwitchflying@eldritch.cafe dang, this is ugly. Thanks for your work in drawing attention to this.
I don't wanna be patronizing, so sorry if this comes off that way, but have you gotten some time to take care of yourself a bit in the wake of this crap? I bet you've already got your own coping routines, but after bad moderation vibes, I like to have a snack and something warm to drink (usually herbal tea or hot cocoa) and look at cute animals for a little while until my body calms down. A bath can also be nice. Also, I like to talk it over with friends. If you would like, here is a link to some cats solving a puzzle, I think it is very cute (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZU-MBLePCvQ).
You are worth treating well, even if there are deeply problematic assholes on the internet.
It looks like you might be keen on running your own instance. Do you want any help with that?
@fack man, I vibe this whole thread.
It can be liberating to have projects that don't fall apart of Amazon is down, but I also don't think that every project needs to be like that.
There's an interesting interplay between self worth/the work you can do/make and anti-corpo stuff. Best discussed with snacks and bev, IMO. It can be kinda dark stuff.
@astrid honestly, no. They're a little rough, so you will probably want to use many coats of clear coat gel. I think we used about five, they can take a while to fully cure.
Other than that, just artificial nail hassles.
Honestly, it was pretty rad, and the nail tech, once she got her stride, was really into buying some for her own projects and stuff, too.
I honestly really like them, they feel like one of the very few techs that is feminine and really punishes someone for not putting it on a nail as a part of a lovely manicure. It's a really nice place for an item that's okay if it goes off a lot. I had a lot of fun with mine.
When I had the data only chip, I wished for an led nail to help folks scan it. If you're considering getting a data nail, I recommend also putting on an led one, but that's about all the issue I ran into. It was easy and great, just plan for removal strat, the removal process generally damages the circuit (and the nail a little, too, bc gel/acrylic).
I took my little nail sticker to a salon. I think this is on top of an acrylic coffin mani? But tbh, I prefer it over a black gel. I really don't like having long nails for dexterity reasons.
You can also get nfc nail components that can store a little bit of data, but they don't look cute, so you need to embed those within acrylic or poly gel, generally. They have a lump about the size of a grain of rice in them, so you need the thickness.
@astrid they're great! I like to put them over black with a clear sealant to smooth over the chip.
An awesome quote from @aurynn that I need to share, in a discussion we were having about automatic filtering/moderation:
"if your tool hasn't thought about how it will be used to create harm, and isn't built in such a way to reduce its ability to cause harm, maybe don't build the tool"
It's amazing how many people don't think like that.
i like kind machines. pro-people-not-dying. anti-nazi. anti-colonizer. pagan, but lazy about it.
