@socketwench looks like you might get material compromise on the contact points? But idk, here's a resource?
@apisashla we are very open to non developers, though sometimes we do talk a lot about esoteric software stuff. I don't follow all of that talk, myself, either, even though I work in software. We try to keep the super technical stuff in #help-me-learn or other side channels, but it kinda gets everywhere. 😅
So long as you're comfy running into kinda dense convos sometimes and scrolling past em, you should have a pretty good time. We have lots of folks who are students, self taught, etc etc.
We call ourselves a computer club as in "a group of people who like computers" rather than as in "a group of people who are good at computers". That distinction is pretty important, since as soon as people start caring about 'technological merit', you can get people who are mean, but smart, and are thus tolerated. Aurynn Shaw wrote an excellent essay on this if you're into a deeper dive https://blog.aurynn.com/2017/04/13-the-that-guy-effect/ .
So, you're very welcome to hang out with us, we'd love to have ya. :)
medical, transmasc advice needed, XX parts
I have a nb/masc-leaning friend who was in a somewhat similar situation a few years ago and had a hysterectomy before starting T. T seems to have helped their health a lot, but it did really impact their living situation.
If you don't get what you need soon, I can reach out to my friend and connect you if you'd like. It looks like you've already gotten lots of great answers already, though.
Cold outside, meandering thoughts, winter clothes
@thegibson@hackers.town it was a good walk. Cold enough that the snow squeaked a little.
I was glad I had long underwear on. Thermasilk+polar fleece leggings+jeans is great. Also, Mongulai makes amazing wool socks. The gloves I wore were a bit thin, and I was only wearing a t-shirt and a flannel button down under my coat, so my elbows got a bit cold, but it was nice to get out.
Next time, I'll probably wear a long-sleeved knit shirt, too, and maybe switch to actually insulated gloves. It's starting to get cold, and it's nice to think about that. These were pretty normal temperatures for this time of year, growing up, and it feels nostalgic and comforting.
Have some pictures:
Cold outside, meandering thoughts
It is cold outside. I think it's about zero now, but that it was colder earlier.
I have been meaning to go for a little walk all day today, just to show the sky that I'm not afraid of it.
... But at the same time, I've been putting off my walk because I haven't found my favorite long underwear yet.
I'll update when I make it out, because I will make it out, and I bet you'd like little night pictures, even if they're a bit lame.
@wgahnagl yeah, here ya go :
If you don't already have a matrix account, we can make ya one, too. Cyberia is a computer club based in Minneapolis, but about half the people in our matrix aren't local. Happy to help if we can :)
@f0x 🖤
@RussSharek one of my favorite new years party traditions is countdowns to midnight. Like, plural. New years parties with my friends would feature a cacophony of countdowns all throughout the night (between maybe 10 pm and 3 am), all ending in the whole party proclaiming "Happy New Year!"
I'm glad that your party will feature multiple new years, as well. :)
Celebrate New Year's Eve with the clowns and our fediverse friends from all over the world from the safety and comfort of your own home via the magical powers of the #CircusInPlace video chat!
The fun kicks off with the Emperor Norton Coffee Hour at 7pm UTC-6, and runs well into the next year so we can cheer at everyone's midnight.
Racism, psychiatry, mindfulness
@Alonealastalovedalongthe @June@kitty.town "...but not enough of a change in perspective that management needs to use new language. Please change yourself, but not in any way that impacts us."
the 3 genders
@haskal alternatively : Eeeeeenby
Racism, psychiatry, mindfulness
@June@kitty.town agreed. Tbh, calling meditation practices and the like 'mindfulness' is a little bit of a red flag for me.
One of my pet peeves around modern American psychiatric care is the abysmal quality of their "mindfulness" education. Is it a great tool? Yes! But if anyone's maintained a personal practice for any amount of time, the level of knowledge in most clinical settings is... Nowhere near enough to be remotely useful.
I suspect.. ✨racism✨! Because, like, why in the world would these people think they're qualified to talk about this stuff, otherwise?? Bleh.
Thanks for the book recommendation!
The #CircusInPlace weather report this Wednesday calls for a night of warm company, cool acrobatics, and a chance of pun storms.
Join the clowns and their friends in the video chat starting at 8pm UTC-6:
Niceposting, food, relationship
This morning, I woke up snuggling with a partner. Then, we baked croissants with apples, chocolate, and brie. They traded my chocolate croissant for a brie croissant, since I liked the brie ones better. Somewhere in there, some work stuff happened. Pretty nice morning ~
@apisashla are you looking for a matrix server to vibe on? Cyberia.club runs a nice one. :)
Product recommendation, cute hair bow ear saver
I replaced the hair clip portion of it, but just uh, PSA, this is a great object and as very useful for being gendered as femme in a mask. The maker is very sweet.
