@qdot if you haven't heard Dorian Electra, I highly recommend them. Very fun, totally worth going for the music video for some context.
I haven't heard of amnesia scanner before, would you recommend any particular album?
@qdot I think some of it morphed into neon retro wave (like The Rain Within?) But I'm not entirely sure. If you haven't seen it already, you might wanna check out hyperpop, too, though it's a little less industrial.

Hey fedi friends! I've been loving Momodou @Saikoubarry 's toots on here about his trees and life in his village, but recently his area was hit by a flood like they'd never seen before. @vortex_egg I think a lot of this weirdness is predominantly online, though?
Like, there's a looooong history of appropriation and occult stuff. You cannot learn in this space without reconciling that at least a little bit. There's been some really great content at local pagan events coming from speakers from various cultural backgrounds and helping to mend fences.
I think some of the heart of the issue is that online communities feel cohesive, but there's no real way to get a good feel for how respected someone is, only how many 'follows' they have, which is usually more related to activity than anything else. You get a bunch of relative newbies in the same place and a strange 'averaging out' happens. If a relative expert moves in, no one can tell, basically?
It feels like statements like 'its unethical to learn magic from a poc if you're white' come from a place of wanting to respect sacred secrets, but it's just wildly misguided. It's a 'compromise' kind of idea that let racists and well-intentioned liberals co-exist and I find that super troubling.
Thankfully, I haven't seen anything like that in our local community, but stuff like this just underscores the importance of *having* a local pagan community.

It's a cool project and I hope it catches on! When you have something ready to be field tested, maybe give me a ping? There's a couple of hacker friendly events out here and we might be able to help get some feedback for ya. :)

Someone made a hat that hosted its own network and served up a little image board. The hat was huge and lit up. Hard to miss. Whenever you were in the same room as hat-chan, you could log on to the image board via a smart phone and shitpost about the talk you were in.
It was incredible.
IMO, it's not super future far fetched, it's feasible today. The localization of the network was a big perk, as was the ephemerality of the whole thing. People wouldn't post contact details, but they would say stuff like 'I'm the girl in the blue shirt sitting in the second row, let's meet up at the bar after this talk'.
And yeah, people were actually pretty cool to each other on it.

That's big and concerning, especially without more context... But C++ can also be kinda chonky. I still have nightmares about the repo full of 500kb files I used to work on. Everyone acted like it was totally normal?? There was no documentation standard and it was just really unpleasant.
Maybe the language or the culture around this language just kind of encourages this sort of behavior? Like 'if it doesn't impact the runtime, it's completely without value'? I don't know. That sounds awful, though, and I hope you don't get handed a file like that.
