I made my girlfriend draw this 'bare metal server'
pun. No regrets.

@aurynn I've been really pleased with how cozy masto feels. Twitter seems a bit like yelling into a sports bar full of drunk football people. Maybe there's cool people in there, somewhere, but those aren't really my kind of odds.

@vortex_egg I think meetup vibes vs makerspace vibes are usually kinda different. I'd give the makerspace a shot, see if you can help out with anyone's project, etc. I hope they're cool :)

I have encountered more image descriptions on Mastodon in 24 hours than I have in Twitter in a couple of years. Seriously. I'm not exaggerating.
As a blind person, this means a lot to me. If you read this and you describe your images, thank you so, so, so much on behalf of all of us. If you don't, now you know you'll be helping random Internet strangers make sense of your posts by typing in a few more words than usual.

Bad sleep, tarot, overwork, python, git

Hi hello, I have a meeting in six hours and I haven't slept yet. But! Tonight I re-implemented the basics for my tarot reading generator and made some good steps towards getting it running as a little app on a raspi with a touch screen! And, the whole thing talks to a receipt printer, and it's on git.

Next up is installing the dependencies on the pi, being kinder to the folks hosting my code rn (I haven't written an ignore file yet...), and building a card interpretation dictionary and printing that alongside the card image.

But hey, I'd put this part off forever, so yay for doing the first step. It's hosted here, if you want to read. It's a lot of sample code still floating around. giit.cyberia.club/~starless/ta

So, someone brought their parrot as a collaborator to an online music circle and I have not been this awed in a long time.

@vortex_egg shameless plug : some friends at Cyberia run capsul.org, a vm host. It's set up so everything 'just works' out of the box.

I think we might've ran out of static ips, so I'd check before buying one immediately, but it's a good service run by excellent people. There's reasonable defaults and some very thoughtful interfaces. You might wanna give it a try. :)

Around March 30 of this year, someone on Mastodon posted some art they had for sale. There was a piece I really liked and wanted to get when I had some extra cash.

I thought I bookmarked the toot, but maybe I didn't. And maybe it's been deleted. But I can't remember now who the artist was.

If I attach a photo of the painting, would you all boost it?

And if it's still for sale, would the artist kindly DM me? :)

Thanks!!

Covid India

@thegibson@hackers.town I wonder if conditions maybe have outpaced reporting... The statistics I've seen don't seem like they're telling the whole story.

Do you know if there are ground-level efforts that might have more accurate data than what the WHO/US media is reporting?

@vortex_egg working with community libraries might be a good start. It'd be awesome if I could ask a librarian an question and, if the question is weird enough, they'd send me to the relevant academic to help.

Obv, there's some anti abuse stuff, etc etc, but it might be a path forward.

Every so often, I want to boost a toot, but said toot is not well CW'd.

Is there an easy way for me to boost a toot and add a content warning? When you're in this situation, what do you do?

Pretty wild how common the "your library needs to reinvent wheels at least 500 lines worth or else it's BAD" mentality still is, you'd think it's obvious that small dependencies are the perfect 'do one thing, do it well' philosophy...
