it seems theres stable enough ntfs support on linux, and i want to use a filesystem with more features than just using FAT

Show thread

hmm
if I wanted a stable filesystem across both windows and linux for one drive, should I stay on NTFS or is there a smooth option for both?

Warning: you better not jump into my mentions about using windows instead of just answering my damn question unless its about the question. just saying "use linux" doesnt help.

woahg, so thunderbird can do calendar, rss, and email?

When it comes to distros removing X11 support and shipping Wayland only i'm conflicted.

I know X11 is old, and rough, and hard to work with, it's not being updated as often, but with that it still has so many things, primarily when it comes to accessibility that beat Wayland hands down.

A few people I know are honestly thinking about moving away from Linux due to this, the lack of support for important things in Wayland and the speed at which distros are dropping X11 is *hurting* desktop Linux adoption and usage.

Look, I know you need to be able to use the thing to figure out what it does not have or needs work on, which is fair, there is a reason dogfooding is common in the software world, but *not everyone is a software developer* Sometimes they don't even have the time or energy to fight with the (frankly kind of very hard-headed and opinionated) wayland people [have you seen how long some MRs for things like per-window icon support and positioning have been open and argued about?] so it's less friction for them to just to switch to something that works and that they can *actually use*

A big part of this is developers not thinking about accessibility needs, or not working on it because it's "not fun", but for fucks sake people, y'all gotta improve on this, it's so embarrassing.

There is a very minor subset of developers who need the a11y support, so those of us who do think about it, but the rest of you need to fucking step up, i'm begging you, it's hurting everyone.
