scam attempt email

Well, seems like one of my email aliases got leaked from a gaming website, and thus in my spam folder I found a funny email:

"You might be curious about how I know these things. Rest assured, it's not luck. A malware infection on one of your devices granted me аccess to аll of them, including your home Wi-Fi. This allowed me to remotely monitor your screen activities.

I've been observing your behavior for some time, collecting sensitive data like messages and emails, and even taking photos of your surroundings. Additionally, I recorded a video (with audio) of you engaging in intimate activities while watching a controversial adult movie.

It's likely you wouldn't want your family, colleagues, or contacts to see these videos, especially if they're your favorite genre."

Oh nooooo please don't leak on the internets nude videos of me masturbating :neofox_shy: what would trans/enby friends think of me~

"Voor het opbouwen van rasterwerk voor wanden en plafonds, maar ook voor het maken van meubels, heb je kwalitatief hout nodig. Kies daarom voor lat hardhout geschaafd 12x68mm 210cm. Deze lat is gemaakt van hardhout, een sterke en harde houtsoort met een donkere en warme uitstraling."

Pff, Gamma, je kunt toch op z'n minst iets beter je best doen om te verhullen dat je tekst automatisch gegenereerd is...

You don't necessarily need to say "image of" in your alt text for users to know it's an image. Screen readers will announce that it's an image. But it can help readers to specify the type of image: hand-drawn image, Polaroid, infographic, screenshot, chart, map, diagram, or so on.

is there something like lagen.nu (this is the GDPR) for EU regulations?

something that shows consolidated texts, but with forward/backlinks between ones that reference each other?

"Evil is built on the back of people in boring jobs "just following orders""

what we have now on the "fediverse" is a good spot to take a breath and relax a bit every now and then, in between bouts of doing work "in the real world" to bring capitalism to its knees and ultimately behead the monster that immiserates us all; the "fediverse" can't be the end goal of this project because it's not enough on its own and it's still full of reactionary, regressive thinking, and it capitulates too much to the patterns and structures of corpo socials, which are all deeply embedded in capitalism

if you want better social media you must begin by building communism

by which I mean: it's not enough to make [xyz corpo platform but it's foss]; capitalism must be destroyed utterly at the root -- then "good" social media might begin to become a possibility

@eniko yeah unfortunately it feels like being an indie dev is one of the last bastions of the tech industry that might be viable as a full time job

Sometimes I think being an indie dev is too unstable an existence

Then I look around me and see some of the most talented software engineers I know struggling to find jobs and oh what's that? Microsoft's laid off another 9000 people?

And then I think, well, would it be any better elsewhere

Historical question: why do we do an oral thesis/dissertation defense at the end of a PhD?

Similarly, I can't seem to find a claimed 'first' time a defense was given for a degree. What was the problem being solved?

#thesis #education #phd

-spacebar should pause/play the video and not do anything else
-clicking the video should play/pause and not do anything else
-double clicking should enable/disable full-screen and not do anything else
-dragging the thingie back to the start SHOULD NOT PLAY THE VIDEO

shitpost, food

did you know. did you know that whenever you french fries on ketchup, taste ketchup fries you? this, this is because ketchup and taste french fries on ketchup is reference to taste french fries on you taste.

Today I learned that the bones of #ThisOldClownHouse are even nicer than we thought.

Had someone identify the era of construction within ten years, and joyfully infodump on us about the amazingly rare and sturdy hardwood which our clowns romp around on here.

This place continues to be full of surprises. :)

Microsoft layoffs, emotional thoughts on game accessibility, stop killing games petition

Edit: And now we find out the Forza team was completely disbanded. I am heartbroken. Good thing both SKG petitions reached their targets because this shutdown might be sooner than later…

Fuck Microsoft. No wait, actually fuck all the execs at every big tech deciding to keep laying on the layoffs while taking larger and larger bonuses. Over 9000 people got layed off from their gaming division today, cancelling a number of projects. This also included the majority of people working on Forza, essentially putting the game on life support.

I got a bit emotional because it really sucks seeing this happen over and over, and in the case of Forza it's a game that means a lot to me personally because it's the first, and basically only racing game that's playable by blind gamers. It's the game I've logged by far the most time in recently, because it's a genre I always wanted to play and I had an interest in... And honestly, if it ever gets shut down and no one else decides to follow in their footsteps there's really nowhere else to go for this genre at least. Which really sucks. Well, there is F1 25 from EA, but it doesn't have a menu screen reader and the racing assists are less precise and not as complete.

Something else this is making me realise is a lot of the gaming accessibility successes we enjoyed recently have all broadly been considered a disappointment or involved in some controversies with the mainstream. The Last of Us 2's ending had people up in arms, the game also launched in the middle of a pandemic which didn't help, though I think it might be enjoying a bit more favor now. Mortal Kombat 1 seems to have largely disappointed WB games with Sales, which considering the game was designed to be a live service much like Forza actually is not good. We know plans for a second content expansion were cancelled and the game has basically had no updates since April, and knowing WB's CEO especially after the split they just had I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to lay on some layoffs of his own. Blizzard also experienced a lot of layoffs which affected the team working on Hearthstone which already resulted in 1 mode being completely removed, another frozen and the game pivoting even harder into microtransactions recently enjoying some controversy of its own involving a cosmetic pet item that can potentially cost over $100. All of these games were celebrated by the disabled gamer community but disliked in some way by everyone else, and could potentially shut down any minute. On that note earlier today I signed the stop killing games petition which would make preserving games like this much easier in the future, and if you're either in the UK or EU you should seriously do so as well.

the adapter is a really simple 3D print, although I added a few steel pins to reinforce it

adapting an Ikea desk lamp to a tripod must be one of the most cursed, yet best things I have done this year… I mean, look at it!!

I am not annoyed by packages not being delivered at 36 °C weather, I am annoyed by automated notification systems claiming "we're sorry".

If an automated system is mailing me, you're not sorry.
