It's really telling how VS Code's release notes used to contain lots of handy new features, accessibility improvements, and technical fixes... and nowadays it's all just AI this, AI that, from start to end
If you think I'm exaggerating, I'm really not - look into the history of Download Valley (which is technically Israeli but that functionally is the same category as US/EU), and then cross-reference that with old news articles about 'spyware' and 'adware' that people couldn't seem to get rid of
I do not miss the days where antivirus companies classified things as "malware" or "legitimate" based on whether there was a (US/EU) registered company behind it or not

tangential, but I get kind of annoyed by comments along the lines of "let's migrate to <other platform>", as if that is a trivial thing to do with minimal consequences (which it isn't, and the constant floating of the idea does not help the sense of community stability either). doubly so when the current platform is one that we do actually have some degree of control over, like is the case with Matrix.
like, we can keep platform-hopping forever, tearing apart what's left of the community at every step, hoping that we'll eventually land on some platform from some company that somehow is prepared to do anything we need for us forever on a budget of "none"... or, more realistically, we could acknowledge that our community is ultimately ours to run and support, and that "everybody putting in their part to make it work" is the sustainable way forward, rather than expecting others to do it for us.
The entire 'recommended for you' box on the IKEA site for me is just different sizes and combinations of SAMLAs...

Please do not respond to this with some variant of "but Electron is resource-hungry!" unless you've actually done a deep dive into resource spend, because I can assure you that I've already evaluated all the common superficial arguments long ago and every single one of them is false

"Vibe coding is all AI coding" feels true to most. Not caring what happens after code is pushed to the final victim is already the norm. The only change from adopting "AI" is they now have the freedom to no longer care about what happens BEFORE as well.

Anybody who goes all huffy because the field OVERWHELMINGLY responds to "vibe coding is using AI to create code that you don't care about" with "ah, so all coding, gotcha!" has not been paying attention

Laughing at "AI" boosters worrying "vibe coding" is becoming synonymous with "AI coding". Tech is vibes througout. Vibe management. Vibe strategy. Vibe design. Coding has been a garbage fire for decades and, yeah it's a vibe-based pop culture from top to bottom and has only been getting worse
