kitchen organization, features many dried shelf stabel foods and spices

Look at all my spices and shelf stable food storage too! I put so much effort into my ADHD friendly kitchen, so I can always find EVERYTHING. The only thing missing is shelf labels, but every container in my kitchen is labeled and visible.

Order brings me so much joy. Please excuse the mess. Tomorrow is cleaning day. I was just so happy today :cinna_cry:

You know, this whole thing wouldn't have been an issue at all if they'd simply given it a different extension, to make it visually clear that it only permits a restricted subset of Nix.

But apparently nothing was learned from the existing mountain of footguns.

So I just learned that apparently flake.nix files aren't actually proper Nix files, despite having a .nix extension, and that they introduce additional syntactic restrictions.

Not type checks on the evaluation result - *syntactic* restrictions. A flake.nix that consists solely of an import of a valid flake under another filename, would be invalid, even though it would be identical value-wise to the valid flake itself.

Great. Because what Nix sorely needed was definitely more hidden footguns!

Internet friends! Soon my UCSC email will be limited to 500 MB of storage. This is an important inbox as it has all my academic life.

What’s the best way to archive it in a searchable way and set it up so that it stays below 500 MB. Auto forwarding?

People who oppose anarchy be like:

"People cannot be trusted to govern themselves, but one or a few persons can easily be trusted to govern hundreds of millions of other people."

It's insulting that we're considered incapable of making our own decisions, yet we're expected to trust in the wisdom of those who hold power.

Perhaps it's time to reevaluate the notion that people need to be governed, and instead, explore systems that foster collective autonomy and mutual aid.

Uspol, ICE, Musk, Trump, Biden, Obama, Bush

Yep. ICE was created under Bush but then maintained under every president afterwards, including the democrats. Obama and Biden could have stopped it, but they didn't. That was a choice.

one thing it really loves about fedi and its alt text culture is that one can find super obscure posts within seconds because the shit is just indexed

As it's Friday (here at least) can all you webdevs do me a favour and make this simple code change:

1. Search for `aria-labeledby` in your codebases.
2. Change it to `aria-labelledby` (note the double L)
3. Submit a PR.
4. Congratulate yourself for your Friday contribution.

btw here are the options you need if you want to use ffmpeg to only mux (to change metadata or stream order or w/e):

-map_metadata 0 -map_chapters 0 -map 0 -c:v copy -c:a copy -c:s copy

#ffmpeg

I'm glad to see that the meme of Teslas as "nazi cars" or "swasticars" is taking hold

musings about 'democracy' (2)

And to clarify, this is about the *institution* of democracy, and how a society should be organized to achieve its goals, the idea that people have of how a "democracy" is actually achieved.

It's not about one's personal choice to vote, which is a completely separate consideration - the system is as the system is today.

Dear politicians

If you are trying to court the progressive vote

It is your job to get us excited about the progressive things you're doing or will do

That's your job, you don't have any other jobs, that's it

If you're playing "progressive policy chicken" with your constituents by seeing how little you can offer us while we still vote for you out of fear of the alternative, you're doing it extremely wrong

The collective noun for a group of Teslas is blaze.

This was shared with my craft group. I just double-checked the date on Reddit, and it dates from March 20, 2025.

I hope we can find the knitter! Please boost.

musings about 'democracy'

More and more, I'm feeling like there's a suspicious lack of evidence that policies such as "majority voting" and "electing people" are actually reasonable or rational ways to arrive at the claimed goals of democracy, at all.

Like, I have always had my issues with the failures of these systems, personally, but I would at least entertain the possibility of there being a hypothetical Good Implementation that could work.

I don't think I believe that anymore, and over the years I have seen basically nothing to convince me otherwise.

And to go even further, I am starting to believe that the only possible long-term outcome of both of these systems is authoritarianism, and no sustainable mitigations to this exist.

Trump, segregation, uspol

Wow, I wasn't expecting the speed run to be this speedy. They are bringing back segregation, as in non-white people explicitly not allowed to use white facilities.
