This is the Google Maps "Immersive View," which Google thinks is good enough for prime placement in their app

@hazel the most fun part is that if you look down while it’s happening to find out the password you can’t do it all of a sudden because that’s not what your head is doing in the muscle memory for the password. your own brain just decides it would like to keep it a secret from you

some real left-brain right-brain shit is when you boot your computer and you cant remember your password but your fingers just type it anyway and log in and you still cant remember your password

It is always interesting to me how people never seem to demand evidence that cruelty will be good for "the economy" but no matter how.many studies of kinder things like UBI or housing first we do those who talk about "the economy" refuse to believe they are beneficial.

You know how people in tech often dream of pursuing farming?

uspol, Greenland politics

Boosting with CW, but I love this take on MAGA.

lmao. Alton Towers opens new ride themed to toxic fluids, and puts up a 'splash zone' sign somewhere as decoration.

Then on opening day, a sewer pipe of a nearby toilet overflows, and floods the area in sewage.

And I don't even know whether it's delicious irony or a bizarre marketing stunt, because it *is* Alton Towers we're talking about here...

CW request, suicidality, important

Please for fucks sake CW your posts about transphobia.

Transphobia has a high tendency for making me actively suicidal.

it's pretty good that a king got stabbed and we are still making jokes about it two thousand years later

Look at them shine ✨

What appears to be an LRAD fired towards the crowd during 15 minutes of silence (one for each victim of the canopy collapse), causing a brief stampedo (fortunately with no serious consequences).

Students did what they planned to do after a security incident: they took off their reflective clothing and said that the protests are officially over, distancing themselves from whatever happens next.

What happens next remains to be seen, but needless to say, thousands of people are still out there.

oh you're the Fediverse Chick? name five instances

To give you a sense of sheer scale, this is what Google's traffic layer looks like right now.

Despite the rain, despite the government shutting down every form of public transport towards Belgrade, the amount of people on the streets of Belgrade right now is absolutely *insane*.

Today's protest is already being referred to as the biggest protest in Serbian history — and rightfully so.

The people are still pouring in, the peak of the crowd isn't expected until 8pm.

commenting on fedi meta

In my opinion, there is a big difference between a malicious attempt at slowing down any fedi instances (activitypub-troll.cf, anyone?) and someone toying with AP to create games (such as the recent maze thing, or the Connect Four thing, over at fedi-crimes.lexi.re), happening to hit misbehaviour of a specific Misskey fork, as well as Friendica.
Especially since the former, the latter should have been entirely harmless, and I don't think throwing one under the bus and putting someone on goddamn fediblock for your specific fedi software malfunctioning is entirely fair.

That being said, while it was fun to watch, the maze thing should probably have been stopped and reported once notice was taken, no matter how slow the request rate, since never-ending fetches are a pretty nasty issue. The game can be restarted once affected implementations are fixed.

I’m glad “marlies fucked up” only came in second but nobody voted for my theory (microcontroller). Which was wrong, so I guess you were right not to. I’ve just done my Investigating (bye bye uptime on my homelab) and it turns out it’s option 1, it just died. Very disapponting. An smd component went pop, judging by the remaining scorchmark. tacobelllabs.net/@marlies/1141

The whole experience of the fedi is just yelling "hey nerds, I found something interesting..." into the abyss and the abyss going "fuck me, that is interesting"

Debating whether Oracle lawyers would be collected by the JVM's garbage collector sure is the kind of conversation that happens in this house
