What appears to be an LRAD fired towards the crowd during 15 minutes of silence (one for each victim of the canopy collapse), causing a brief stampedo (fortunately with no serious consequences).

Students did what they planned to do after a security incident: they took off their reflective clothing and said that the protests are officially over, distancing themselves from whatever happens next.

What happens next remains to be seen, but needless to say, thousands of people are still out there.

oh you're the Fediverse Chick? name five instances

To give you a sense of sheer scale, this is what Google's traffic layer looks like right now.

Despite the rain, despite the government shutting down every form of public transport towards Belgrade, the amount of people on the streets of Belgrade right now is absolutely *insane*.

Today's protest is already being referred to as the biggest protest in Serbian history — and rightfully so.

The people are still pouring in, the peak of the crowd isn't expected until 8pm.

commenting on fedi meta

In my opinion, there is a big difference between a malicious attempt at slowing down any fedi instances (activitypub-troll.cf, anyone?) and someone toying with AP to create games (such as the recent maze thing, or the Connect Four thing, over at fedi-crimes.lexi.re), happening to hit misbehaviour of a specific Misskey fork, as well as Friendica.
Especially since the former, the latter should have been entirely harmless, and I don't think throwing one under the bus and putting someone on goddamn fediblock for your specific fedi software malfunctioning is entirely fair.

That being said, while it was fun to watch, the maze thing should probably have been stopped and reported once notice was taken, no matter how slow the request rate, since never-ending fetches are a pretty nasty issue. The game can be restarted once affected implementations are fixed.

I’m glad “marlies fucked up” only came in second but nobody voted for my theory (microcontroller). Which was wrong, so I guess you were right not to. I’ve just done my Investigating (bye bye uptime on my homelab) and it turns out it’s option 1, it just died. Very disapponting. An smd component went pop, judging by the remaining scorchmark. tacobelllabs.net/@marlies/1141

The whole experience of the fedi is just yelling "hey nerds, I found something interesting..." into the abyss and the abyss going "fuck me, that is interesting"

Debating whether Oracle lawyers would be collected by the JVM's garbage collector sure is the kind of conversation that happens in this house

FOSS is awesome but if you are mad about windows being evil and shitty the answer is not "tell people about linux". it isn't gonna work! it will never work! the answer is STOP MICROSOFT the answer is break the company the fuck up the answer is to get politically organized to round up all those fucks and throw em in prison for their crimes against humanity and software or whatever

but until then what you're doing is telling people "actually you're at fault here" for crimes of corps

i love open source, it's awesome, it's cool as fuck, I love using linux

but also i see it as... a major leader in an ongoing shift over the past 35 years away from "we can build a better world through collective organizing" to "you need to just start using the right software and not supporting the bad corporations, the problem is individuals not doing the right thing".

Fedi, who do you know who's the vintage MP3 player expert?

I'm asking Fedi because I have certain expectations and requirements that only Fedi can fill. I'm looking specifically to hear from That One MP3 Player Person, here.

There's definitely an era of Peak MP3 Player, the same way e-ink ereaders peaked in 2007-2008 in the Just Before Touchscreens Ruined Everything era - there's definitely an aluminium-body clicky-buttoned MP3 player that Just Plays MP3s and is tactiley perfect and beautiful in every way and probably unobtainum except with eBay and patience, and I want to know about it from The MP3 Player Expert.

I want the person with a display shelf full of MP3 players to infodump at me about when the buttons disappeared and everything carcinized into a phone and made them sad. I expect this person will tell me to look for something in the late aughts to early teens and know the part number for a replacement battery. If this is you, please give me a link to your website, and feel free to show me your socks as well because I expect they're cool as hell.

No need to tell me you use your phone for music or tell me the MP3 player that you already own is good, I don't care. I want to find The Vintage MP3 Player Person With Heavily Considered Opinions, and ask them questions that only they will be able to answer. I need the MP3 Player Librarian. I feel in my heart that this person is here on the Fediverse somewhere.

UPDATE: it's only been 5 minutes haha, alright here's what I want:
* no apple or apple-wannabe
* plug it in and it shows up as a USB drive, I won't install software
* takes SD or MicroSD
* just plays MP3s
* no touchscreen
* no capacitive controls
* preference: steel or aluminium

UPDATE: ipods are apple, I specifically don't want apple, I already know about ipods thx

UPDATE UPDATE: editing the question to make it more obvious that I'm looking for a person not a thing here, I don't want to know about your MP3 player, I want to know where the Vintage MP3 Player Wizard dwells

UPDATE 4: looking into Sony players around the tail end of the minidisc era, also this wee lad looks like a decent "modern" equivalent: binarydigit.city/a-simple-digi

question regarding insurance coverage for voice training in germany

Does someone have a link to a resource proving that Stimmtherapie for trans people is compensated for by public insurance? (Techniker in our case)
We start voice training last week but had to pause it, our general physician doesn't feel comfortable writing the Heilmittelverodnung for it after all, at least without an answer from our insurance.

Can I say it's not punk to be anti-vax/anti-mask?

Can I say it's not antifascist to be anti-vax/anti-mask?

Can I say you're not a real anarchist if you're anti-vax/anti-mask?

You're not a real punk, antifascist, or anarchist if you're against vaccines/masks

because you're being ablest, racist, and classist by sacrificing the disabled and poor (who are disproportionately people of color) to get sick for the sake of your personal belief that vaccines or masks don't work. And why am I saying you're being a bigot towards those groups specifically? Because they will have to tank this just like they did (and still do) during the all waves of Covid-19. They got sick more. They died more.

Oh, and since AFAB people are also more likely to be poor, and they will absolutely suffer the consequences of your bullshit.
If you're anti-vax/anti-mask, you're not a feminist.

There, I said it. It's done.

?

Ik checkte mijn foon.
Maar heus; ik heb 7 uur 25 minuten geslapen.
