Aha, rich man, you know the laugh’s on you
You live and die by another man’s rule
And when we both are dead and gone
The legend of my kind will still live on

The rich man has no use for me
Nor have I any use for he
He’ll judge a man by the clothes he wears
Judge I a man by the burden he bears

On the other hand, they *did* include a few parts that I didn't actually order

I now also know why the parcel was delayed by a day because the box had clearly been damaged in shipping and patched up with tape

Just received an online order, and using a heatsealer to split a ziploc bag into compartments sure is a... choice.

One that makes the whole 'ziploc' part completely useless 🙃

TL;DR: With Firefox 56, Mozilla combined Firefox Health Report and Telemetry data into a single setting called “technical and interaction data”, which was then enabled by default. This included data about advertising within Firefox’s New Tab page, along with a lot of other technical information about the installation of Firefox. The Firefox preferences UI makes no mention of usage of this technical data for advertising purposes. Mozilla has also recently shared that they share data with their advertising partners “on a de-identified or aggregated basis”. Mozilla has given no indication that this is a new occurrence.

*old man voice* back in my webdev days, every website was just bootstrap2.css, now everything looks like this

Skype is shutting down in May. I've been using it to speak with my grandmother, and I am looking for an alternative, with the following features:
* can do live subtitles (in French)
* works without a phone number/sim card
* can call your contacts and be dialed (i.e. not only invite by email/calendar/url…)
* simple UI/UX (with big buttons) is far more important than feature rich.

I know various things that do some of the above, but I'm not sure what (other than Skype) does all of it.

Any help?

So I've been adjusting my diet to account for my newly acquired immuno-deficiency and hunger-feeling disruption (because well, post-transplantation meds), switching most of my breakfast away from carbs and uncooked meats etc., and towards yoghurt with seeds, including sunflower seeds. Because that's safe, right?

Well, whaddayathink, the fucking sunflower seeds got recalled because of a potential salmonella contamination. You can't make this shit up 😐

At least I don't seem to have picked up any infections, but this is some "the universe aligning to fuck you up" shit. Fucking sunflower seeds! Of all things!

Rutte has spearheaded over a decade of conservative backsliding in the Netherlands. Never holding any actual positions, just always aligning himself with power. An absolutely ghoul in a suit.

Just another Waymo picking up in the bike lane on Townsend and 3rd. They programmed them to do this on purpose. But sure, tell me again how cyclists should worship robocars as our traffic-safety saviors. 😒 #bikeTooter

If you kicked off a job and it turns out it’s going to take a lot longer than you thought, and you don’t want to throw away your progress:

This will pause your program, then resume it, but this time you’ll get an audible notification when it completes. Unblock thyself.

The semicolon is important because it’s analogous to a finally block. You’ll get a notification for either success or failure. You can also && say yay || say oh no.

Ah, but see, it's *European* tech, so then it's fine!

There’s more to #Ottawa than manicured lawns and pretty petals.

Thanks to multiple grassroots efforts, Ottawa’s bountiful greenery is getting more sustainable as #rewilding efforts are on the rise. Here are four projects that deserve attention and support.

Am I imagining things or did PayPal's fee for sending private transactions increase *significantly* recently?

If you think "some people will always want to exploit each other" is an argument against anarchism, why is your immediate solution to give those who exploit others power?

I don't really understand the idea behind needing to call congresspeople to get them to do something like reject a budget proposal. Sure it might make some sense for things where they would not be forced to do it otherwise, but surely they are not weighing the number of phone calls against their reelection chances - people don't have political memories like that. It feels like Tinkerbell logic along with removing their culpability for decisions: they would have done the thing you wanted but not enough people believed in them.

If you're a "call my congresspeople" kind of person, no beef with you, not my kind of tactic but I'm not trying to discourage you. Just seeing appeals like "this dem Rep says everyone needs to call their senator or else they will cave!" is like "or they could have a strategy beyond theater"

Edit: to be super clear, this is not me saying "don't call your congresspeople" - I basically share asta's sentiment that the amount of labor required to do it is very low for most people, so any nonzero effectiveness makes it probably worth doing in some circumstances.

🦝Guys??? The lesbian toggle made it to Polygon LOL
