i often lament that people don't share show posters on mastodon (all the vancouver punks are still just on instagram...), but i admittedly haven't been great at posting here either. so i'm gonna change that. perhaps it'll start dragging the music scene people off the big tech platforms.

The “not-a-fork”[sic] fork of Nix has decided to go ahead and take over the next major version number out of the hands from the official Nix package, and from there, take over the mindshare of the version 3.0.

What the actual fuck?

This is effectively a hostile takeover of the Nix name. Nix 3.0 will surface the “not-a-fork”[sic] fork.

They will surely be using the excuse that it's “Determinate Nix”, which is a different name. But in practice, you know how it is. They are polluting the mindshare with their “not-a-fork”[sic] fork.

Also, this is absolutely 100% a fork, even though they say it's not.

This is a fork that has made the current state of Flakes stable. A major fork in the road. Either Nix will have to become "incompatible" with the stability “promises” from the “not-a-fork”[fork], or bow down to what Determinate Systems decides for compatibility, for their future.

I guess it's a good time to jump over to Lix, for anyone who hasn't done so. It work just fine with NixOS.

Hopefully we'll have a statement from the Nix project regarding this.

I think part of the reason so many trans women are uncomfortable being dommes is because being dominant is often treated as something that is antithetical to being cute. This is my favorite photo for demonstrating the impact of #LightPollution on physiology. The image was taken by shows a soybean field illuminated by a badly directed streetlight.

What's happening here is that soybeans are supposed to grow leaves in the early part of summer, and as nights get longer, they should make #soybeans and turn brown. In the green area, the plants don't understand what time of year it is, and it's therefore a complete loss for the farmer.

The reason I love the photo so much is because you can see the shadow of the light mast on the field.

The photo was taken by Dwaine Eddie McGriff & Ben Tankersley, and originally posted to Xitter (the post no longer exists).

The problem could be entirely solved by using a streetlight with strong backlight shielding (i.e. shining the light only on the roadway).
