(Though for their in-person events, like that VR tour of the potential new train interiors, they really need to fix their compensation - a second-class off-peak ticket is really kind of a shitty compensation when you're asking people to sort out their own transport to get there... you're a train company FFS, could you really not afford to pay for the tickets of your survey panel???)

Sidenote, if you're in NL, and you're a rail nerd, sign up for the survey panel! Details about unreleased/non-final plans for the railways show up there with some regularity

Ok so @techwolf12 and I were talking about blu-ray, and we suddenly found out about the existence of "BD-Live".
Basically as far as we can find, this was a feature that certain blu-ray discs had that allowed for additional online features to be provided.

Some examples I can find online are honestly quite extreme, like having a chatroom during the movie? What?

I'm super intrigued but can't seem to find /anything/ about this standard or what options it had.

Also?? Does this mean you can run code on your blu-ray player through this??? Can you boot linux? Do we have blu-ray linux?

So many questions!!
Anyone that knows more about this on here, or can link us to a bit more technical specification of this feature?

#bluray #hacking

Just got a request from the Dutch railways' survey panel to update my personal information, to make sure my profile was still up to date - and I noticed that several of the questions had been improved *a lot*, leading me to suspect they had it reviewed by someone neurospicy (eg. some traditionally-vague-in-NL survey questions were clarified a lot).

Of particular interest was that aside from a man/woman/other/prefer-not-to-say option, they had an *additional* "how do you want to be addressed" field... which is freeform text input!

And near the end of the survey, it explicitly stated that they are working on better accessibility, both for physical disability and also things like neurodivergence, and whether they could ask some additional questions about that. So I guess that confirms my suspicion.

Just a reminder that #rescueTransRescue is still ongoing! (so go check it out if you haven't yet!)
Thanks so much to @inherentlee for all the work hosting this great fundraiser!
@trans_rescue is such a great organization doing really good work!

Fun fact: A group of Elon Musks cyber trucks is called a Recall.

That said, whoever started calling a cyber truck a Deplorian, identify yourself. I’d like to buy you a drink!

A320 cockpit

I was trying to sneak photos of the cockpit and the pilots saw and just invited us in to see it and stuff, was so cool omg

Okay by this point I'm *convinced* that Mastodon is eating a bunch of my favs. I'm *certain* I've favourited things that now show up as not favourited.

If you could choose one piece of software you wanted to exist, something that just does one simple thing and which right now you can't find (because eg. everything is bogged down in subscription or enshittification nonsense), what would it be? :boost_requested:

Hmm. What do people actually use office suites for nowadays?

boundaries, somewhat negative

i wish someone had sat me down and talked to me about boundaries when i was 15 or so. like, my boundaries, not other people's, i did get taught about those. i wish they had told me that if i don't want to do something that isn't a job or a chore, i don't have to do it. that if i don't want to be touched or have sex, it doesn't have to happen. i think that one conversation would've saved me from many bad situations.

i think it's a related, but separate concern from safety. the adults around me talked about safety a lot. but it always assumes there's someone evil who wants to do something bad to you. it's a very simplistic view. people are complex. cartoon villains don't exist.

dunno. i know all that now. it took me longer than it should've.

if i ever have children, making sure they don't have to learn it by trial and error will be one of my top priorities.

I wonder if anyone has a copy of Tatort Episode 430, “Tödliches Labyrinth” (1999) or Episode 691 “Tod einer Heuschrecke” (2008) (they were in parts filmed at c-base)
