"Would you prefer if sites were funded by ads instead of paywalls?"

No Mr. Bond, I'd prefer those sites to die.

Just saw a "Tim Walz is one of the helpers Mr. Rogers promised us" post

and I must once again emphasize that Mr. Rogers said that to children. Because children often can't be helpers in these big issues. He wasn't talking to adults.

Adults, you are supposed to be the helpers. Politicians will not save you. There's no one size fits all way to help your community, but you're not the ones that are supposed to be looking for the helpers.

It's always a good evening when you find a new Deviant Ollam video.

Have you ever wondered how to drink tea in style whilst cruising through the Eurotunnel?
Well, I have answered that question for myself.

I do like systems that randomly have to come up with underground station designs, only to be used once. In Bergen, this would be Haukeland sjukehus station, which is the only underground station other than the airport station, which is more in a cutting than anything.

Quite a striking design and deeep deeeep underneath the surface (it’s underneath a hill) and connects the university hospital and other health centres with the rest of the city.

Hurray!

Oh no.

Hey, transfeminine folks! I had a convo with my (very trans-friendly) audiologist, and she asked an interesting question based on some anecdotal observations:

Have any of you noticed a correlation between feminizing HRT and hearing loss?

I'm not a good example, as I had hearing loss long before I started HRT in November 2020, but she's consulted with other audiologists who've noticed a similar trend. This may be a fluke, or confirmation bias, or related to something completely unrelated to HRT, e.g. transfems also tend to listen to really loud noisecore hyperpop or whatever, but I said I'd reach out to get some more anecdotal information.
😊 Thanks!

while i do agree "just google it" is an unhelpful response to a question, but when thats all the person who is being asked is gonna do, it feels a bit silly. and there is definitely a demographic of people who would prefer to offload the task of finding information onto someone else. anyway, just be careful of who you are demanding labour from. its always better to ask questions after seeing if someone else has provided an easily accessible answer. if you are struggling to find an answer, for accessibility/disability reasons, or just enshittification reasons, asking for help is very cool. just please, if you can, try before asking someone else to do it for you.

(if you @ me about google being shite, im gonna block you. use whatever search engine you please)

Muis gaapt altijd drie keer.
Maar hij hield het bij twee. Ik was heel verbaasd.

"Muis? Moet je niet nog een keer gapen? Die 'nu ga ik actie ondernemen'-gaap?"
Hij keek lichtjes om zich heen en vooruit.
"Heb ik dan je middelste gaap gemist?" vroeg ik hem.
Geen antwoord.
Ik wachtte.

Na een minuut kwam De Derde Gaap.

Wait no, postcards are FREE while the app is in beta

Dude. No. You shouldn’t have told me about your app. This is like when they didn’t have ordering limits on USPS flat rate boxes so as a teen I ordered 10,000 flat rate boxes to my house and the local post office in my rural Iowa town had to shut down for the day to process them all. Something like that might happen.

Plurality question, :boost_request:

Fedi has a bunch of plural critters, so let me ask here:

How would I, as one part of a system, unambiguously refer to a pre-plural self? Both "I" or "we" seem off there, and writing it out all the time sucks.
Context: System is a split with two headmates.

Links to external resources are also welcome.

Heading down to the key-value store. Anyone want anything?
