"whenever we are rotating the parent, we are also rotating the child" is a cursed phrase outside of gamedev context

Top tip on German trains: if something is unclear with your ticket *seek out on board staff before they find you* - that way you’re being the helpful and proactive one, not being evasive or hiding

Due to a partial cancellation of a later train I wasn’t entirely sure I could take this earlier one

Find train manager, ask, explain - and now it’s all fixed

Am I understanding this correctly? They're suing for a court order to block DigiCert from revoking the invalid certs from that verification screwup? Like, they need a court ordered extra week to get their certs renewed?
How janky is their IT?

openSUSE 10.2 in the mid-2000s was BRINGING IT. Just sublime.

LB: "SSL certificate restraining order" is one of the fuckin' weirdest phrases I have ever heard

sabotage in France (clarification)

To be clear, I'm not saying that *the act itself* could not be carried out by a leftist! The rail network would be a strange choice of target, but there could conceivably be circumstances where this would happen. It's the "nobody has claimed responsibility" part that makes this weird.

sabotage in France

Authorities claiming that the arson attacks on rail infrastucture were probably carried out by "the ultra-left".

I don't know, but it doesn't seem very credible to me that an actual leftist would do that *and then not claim it*. It doesn't really make sense in the context of leftist politics - you'd want to be making a point, and ensure it is clearly understood.

Unlike right-wing groups, which thrive on fear and blame, I don't see that leftist groups really have much to gain from just causing unspecified chaos... that's not how leftist politics work.

Meanwhile, the web's putting an increasing amount of trust into CloudFlare to make sure I'm "a human" and I hate really everything about that.

You know what I fucking love? That point in a person's transition that they forget their dates. Their hormoneversery becomes a thing that they realise was a week ago. It's become normal. It just is. It's not a thing to celebrate. They fought the battle, they won, and now they are living in the body they forged and it's so normal that they forget the date they won. Like a forgotten victory day for a war distant ancestors fought

thoughts regarding transmedicalism

i feel like a really dangerous part of transmedicalist rhetoric is the idea that you have to have yourself figured out to be trans. Think of all the stories that always come up with trans people in the media about how "they knew they were a (woman/man) since they were a young child". I'm sure this is the case for many trans people but it's also not reflective of many other trans experiences and creates the narrative that "true" trans people have their gender figured out, thus restricting others from figuring themselves out and getting the care they need. Plus as many others have pointed out it invalidates non-binary people. Transmedicalism is just another arm of the patriarchy used to enforce gender roles and should be treated as such.

political take

i love liberals (/s) for the damage they made to society by convincing it that public transport can't work outside of cities

yes it can and it does or did before public transport was systematically deprived of financing and proper management

lol

@jonny I remember reading something about a fedi instance that would spend most of its time with no federation, but would every so often "dock" with a random instance out there, federate for a little while, and then pick up and "leave" again.

If I remember right it was a mildly shitposty concept that never actually got implemented, but there is a charm to it.

You know what I dont even care about a browser fully implementing web standards. Whoever makes a browser that animates every website at like 5% speed with little guys running out into the internet to go bring back the pictures and stuff them into place, little goblins that push the page elements around to animate them, and you adblock by Mario stomping the tracking demons as they try and steal your clicks and stuff... I will use that browser no matter how completely busted it is

"I want you to imagine someone for me. Her name is Jessica and she is 17 years old...."

For years, "A Story About Jessica" (a computer security parable @SwiftOnSecurity wrote, published on their Tumblr in 2014) was pretty hard to find.

Per the CC BY license, I've now republished it so it's easier to discover and reference.

activism meta

The problem in activism that I find the most challenging is not how to convince people or make things better, but how to make sure that those improvements persist without needing a Dear Leader and how to avoid the usual cycles of improvement followed by inaction and regression
