It bears mentioning that Songtradr is a music licensing and digital rights management company. So the first thing users can expect to go out the window are DRM-free downloads, signaling a push towards platform lock-in.

They’ll probably keep #BandcampFriday for a time, but slightly increase their cut off the top the rest of the time, framing it as a compromise. That cut will continue to increase in a frog-boiling way. Eventually, downloads will only be available at a premium, requiring DRM and their proprietary player. They’ll pivot to being a Spotify competitor.

You’ll pay for the music, the artist will get less, and you won’t have agency over how you can play the music you paid for. They’ll start paying by the stream instead of just offering albums for sale.

And that’s when the ads will start.

18-24 months, roughly. And that’s assuming Songtradr cares about maintaining any good will with the #Bandcamp community.

Hopefully I’m dead wrong about this.

I can't believe it took me so many years of frustration to discover this, holy shit

Wow. De 'nieuwe' achtbaan van Hellendoorn is blijkbaar zo'n tweedehands Reverchon-kermisbaantje. Ik kan maar moeilijk begrijpen dat ze daar in deze tijd nog geld aan uit durven te geven...

Reminder: when someone (eg. landlord, company, employer, whatever) tells you that a contract change or renewal is 'needed', always approach it critically and determine what exactly they mean with "needed".

Often what they actually mean is that *they* need the change, not that *you* need the change.

[job interview voice] yes, I’m very personable. I work well with people, great communicator

The thing about aggressive cyclists is that they are absolutely a problem, but they become more of a problem the less bike infrastructure there is, because a) that's the only way to survive among cars, and b) the situation self-selects for those people, as non-aggressive cyclists would not last for very long.

So counterintuitively, to have less issues with aggressive cyclists, you need more cycling infrastructure -> more overall cyclists. Not even *less* of them, like people often claim.

(Inspired by, but *not* a subtoot of, a toot I ran across today)

For reference, I used to be 110 - 115kg, and now I'm more like 90kg

The bad: all of them are now too big

One of my favourite (and oh so simple) hacker tricks is to abuse JSON support in APIs and pass TRUE instead of the actual API key. If the code does loose comparison, you don't need the key! 😎 😈 🍿

re: grumbling, evergreen

(This is mostly a complaint about people elsewhere. Most of my interactions on here are quite good. But there's certain communities that are absolutely full of the strawman-constructing type.)

And yes, the people who show that they can deal with nuance, continue to get nuanced takes rather than absolute ones. So if you keep getting absolute takes from me, that should tell you something about the way you communicate and argue

"Stop speaking in such absolute terms all the time!"

Maybe I wouldn't have to speak in absolute terms if people ever actually took the nuance seriously, instead of taking it as an invitation to construct a strawman
