Still angry about an old article about ChatGPT

ChatGPT is like

What if instead of paying a research assistant to do a boring and repetitive task

Instead a computer does it

But the computer is powered by Kenyans being called the n-word for exploitatively bad wages

And every time you bring this up, people handwaive your concerns away condescendingly

Heads up - apparently Patreon changed their payment processor from California to Ireland without telling anyone, and, as a result, a bunch of transactions all got cancelled as "suspicious activity". Whether you're a creator or a patron, maybe double-check all your pledges!

It blows my mind that it’s 2023 and we still can’t have an anchor or a form carry out an HTTP PUT or DELETE request without using a library like htmx.

But Web DRM? Sure, we’re working on that!

*smh*

And while I'm on the subject, why DO we accept thousands of flu deaths each year when many could be prevented??? (Rhetorical. I don't really need an answer.) In early 2020, before any Covid research, I found study after study proving that masks prevented the spread of flu, yet I'd never heard any suggestion to wear masks. We just let it rip and accepted all these deaths. No wonder all the anti-maskers argue that "Covid is just like the flu". If we accepted that, why not this, right? Smdh

re: negative, children's safety

Oh, and bonus points for the (queer!) people threatening to call in the cops on a community of other queer folks for talking about this, ie. immediately putting everybody's safety there in jeopardy

Like, what the actual fuck is wrong with you?

Like, harm reduction doesn't suddenly stop mattering because you personally feel uncomfortable with the topic

(I am being deliberately vague here, given the tendency of some people to try and find the absolute worst interpretation of anything on this topic)

negative, children's safety

It's depressing how quickly many supposed 'leftists' fall back into statist rhetoric and "law is more important than harm reduction" thinking when discussing how to deal with children and sexuality safely, with all of the bad-faith discussion tactics that come with that.

bbc@terf.island: how the situation in china shows they still need the guidance of the white man

user@big.instance: finally,,, this network is being taken Seriously

queefmonger@tech.gay: i used a scanner to make a back for a medium format camera and used it to take some macro shots of my balls, check it out

Slightly unfriendly reminder to a lot of the white people in Black people's replies when they are talking about racism:

If you are doing that thing where you reflexively push back against a Black person identifying an experience that they are having with white people by trying to say it isn't about race or something else is also a factor that isn't about a marginalized identity, you are part of the problem.

"It isn't about race, it's about politics!"
"It's not just white people doing it, others do it too!"

Stop. You have to stop doing this. Check your instincts and deal with your discomfort with race on your own time please. Don't try make us hold your hand, we've done plenty of that already.

I see this stuff almost every day I'm on here. Well-meaning minimization of someone else's struggles ain't helpful and they damn sure ain't good allyship.

Waffling

I also found out that a lot of people don't actually read the .art blog posts I make to include details of mod action we're taking. They just see the announcement and look at the 'discourse' going on around it and make up their own minds without reading the (usually short and to-the-point) posts that accompany them.

Can't win. If we don't post receipts/reasons, we're asked for them. So we post them for maximum visibility; blog post, toot, announcement, then people don't bother reading.

Apparently HR at this new company couldn't decide what gender I was, and was too scared to ask. HR person said the recruiter called me she and the interviewer called me he and my name is too neutral to tell. My neutral style of clothing definitely didn't help either.

I am become the mythical enby, destroyer of gender

It really bugs me in these natural disaster or zombie/alien movies when no one has a decent backpack. Everyone’s running around with these useless purses or crappy little rucksacks that will give you blisters the second you load it up. Come on, people! If you can loot a grocery store you can loot an REI. The concept is the same. Get a freaking compass while you’re at it. Maybe a bike. You can outrun a lot of zombies on a bike. I assume. Grab a hat, too. The last thing you need now is a sunburn.

Please enjoy this emojo of a leaf blower :leafblower: which I emojified off a hardware chain webstore. CC0.

Have you noticed almost everyone strongly against defederation as a management and safety tool also has a problem with consent and boundaries?
