Jesus. My 'liberal' NIMBY-esque neighborhood of Rockridge is starting civilian 'safety' patrols. WTF.

From the Q&A in the local newsletter:

"What will the driver do if they see an incident in progress? - Our drivers' primary duty is to observe, support, report, and when necessary serve as expert witness. When they see unusual activity, rather than make assumptions, they approach the scene in a friendly manner and ask if someone requires assistance before determining the next best response."

I wonder how much time their civilian drivers have spent interrogating their 'assumptions.'

We searched both sides where it could have come from, no mom or siblings in sight. so we've gone from people generally agreeing that google killed XMPP to some spirited debate as to whether that is still true or if XMPP simply killed itself because maybe facebook will like us more if we stop making observations about corporations - I expect that by 2033 we will have people insisting that it was actually XMPP that killed google (google will nevertheless still be alive and well having purchased 65% of congress to make installing an ad blocker a felony in the US)

People user Speaker's Corner as an analogy for social media. It's a corner of Hyde Park. I think it used to really be something, but now it's a bunch of unpleasant people standing on step ladders holding bullhorns and all ranting at the same time, half of them about Jesus. I've seen videos of queers trying this and being harassed. I actively avoid the corner when this is happening.

Anyway, Silicon Valley types saw this mentioned in a book and thought it would be a great model for building community. It's maybe good for rousing rabble, but it's mostly the most irritating men on earth shouting over each other.

Yep, it looks like there is a XSS vulnerability with Lemmy that has been widely exploited, allowing the attackers to steal cookie credentials including potentially those of the site admins.

Some other non-compromised Lemmy instances have taken themselves offline until a fix is available.

Kbin is not affected as far as I can see.

Ook als #Rutte nu echt definitief opdondert - wat ergens nogal de vraag is - blijven we opgezadeld met verdere verrechtsing en een mainstream links dat net zo goed deel is van de verrotte establishment.

Er gaat niks goeds gebeuren in het parlement. Laten we dan vooral ook ons focussen op wat daarbuiten moet en kan gebeuren.
