Is there any permanent way to block YouTube showing me the output from a single particular channel?
I know there is a "Don’t Recommend Channel" option but that doesn't stick and generally seems like a soft suggestion to the algorithm rather than a NEVER SHOW ME THIS EVER directive
Is a perma block possible?
One of the things I have loved about Mastodon and the fediverse is that it changed how I use social media. On Twitter, my feed looked like everyone else's: RTs of all the same big accounts.
The big accounts aren't here. They aren't dominating conversations or our feeds. We are finding new accounts, new voices, new perspectives, and new jokes. I realize that this wisdom and wit did exist on Twitter, but it was not easily discovered.
I just popped into Bluesky. Looked at the feed of a well-known Twitter account, and all it consisted of was interactions with that exact same select few accounts.
Twitter, Bluesky, and Post are spectator social media. There are people who prefer to be spectators, and some of the big accounts do provide important information and insight. But it's not conversational in a way that includes followers.
Dear tech bros,
Have you licked the boots of your favourite billionaire and/or trillion-dollar corporation yet today?
Remember to nitpick and challenge every word of those trying to warn folks away from them and creating alternatives that don’t exploit people for profit (fucking commies, amirite?) while giving them every benefit of the doubt (let’s be frank, who hasn’t caused the occasional genocide?)
Silicon Valley thanks you for your service.
Attention! I recently learned that the behaviour of lying flat out on the belly with arms and legs spread out that some animals do, often to cool off, by radiating heat into the cooler ground, is called "splooting." I personally have been calling it "going full rug", but I guess splooting is also hilarious. So here's a red panda splooting, in case you need a demonstration. #RedPanda
moderation stuff, meta-related, squishy
I hope folks "heal" from how techchuds successfully conditioned many folks to accept white supremacist and otherwise fashy moderation norms. I hope folks remember how they felt in their thoughts and feelings before they accepted this as "normal"
Lots of people used to report racist, queerphobic, violently nationalist, and fash posts on nazi-sympathizer-owned social media until they learned that did nothing, and then they gave up and had to "make do" even though they were right
I hope folks who knew better but gave up find a place good enough to deserve them. I hope the same for folks whose lives were made more fraught and isolated by corporate tech's extreme harmful incompetence in acting as a publisher for fash propaganda (intentional though it was)
This thought brought to you by pondering how more efficient API designs (like GraphQL etc.) are also more difficult to rate-limit than less efficient API designs (REST etc.)
I love playing with spreadsheets and making them pretty and elegant and efficient. if you want or need a spreadsheet i would like to discuss what i can do for you for free. mostly i use Google sheets.
For example I've made ttrpg character sheets and competitive video game performance analyzers. I don't have experience putting together budgeting sheets. I'll reply to this post with links to examples tonight.

The swordsmith inhaled sharply.
"Is it bad?" the Hero asked.
"This blade can't be repaired."
"But it's the Blade of Fate!"
"Sorry."
"It's destined to help me kill the Dark Lord!"
"Old Runsy?"
"Runsy?"
"I went to school with him. Did you know he's mortally allergic to cats?"

There’s also this aspect of the role of an algorithm in that context; with a firehose like twitter, everybody is encouraged to perform to their imagined idea of “the world”, and then an algorithm can take all of those people performing to empty rooms and decide which of them to create “communities” out of. This fundamentally misses the point of community building, much in the same way that using ChatGPT misses the point of writing an essay.
In the process of moving to @joepie91. This account will stay active for the foreseeable future! But please also follow the other one.

Sometimes horny on main (behind CW), very much into kink (bondage, freeuse, CNC, and other stuff), and believe it or not, very much a submissive bottom :p
My spoons are limited, so I may not always have the energy to respond to messages.
Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
