If you're twitter or facebook it behooves you to have 100k angry randos and celebrities on your platform because they are making you money. If you are an instance admin who has to pay for server costs, those assholes become an expensive liability, why this is not obvious to more people is beyond me

The "grow or die" model/mindset is a byproduct of capitalism, and that should be enough to reject it out of hand. Aside from that though, attempting to apply it to social media platforms that do not depend on adtech money is totally backwards. Treating the desirability of growth as axiomatic completely ignores the one meaningful way in which the fedverse is superior, which is that it costs fucking money

there has been news going around about posh billionaires foolishly being trapped in the submarine coffins underwater

we all love a good dose of schadenfreude every now and then. what we don't love though, is scaring somebody.

me and some other users on fedi have thalassophobia, and i am sure even more have a fear of drowning or claustrophobia, so if you are going around reposting news about this event, please take a minute to add a proper content warning. it doesn't hurt you to do so, and it keeps whoever would not be comfortable seeing that safe. i am sure this is a reasonable ask
