I told it that there was no Python code in the repository. It told me that I was correct because the code in that repository is C++. I told it there is also no C++. Google Bard again told me that I was correct, this time claiming that the code was Lua. I told it there was also no Lua code in the repository. Google Bard told me that I was correct and that the repository contained Python code.

To be clear, the programming language used in the repository is one made by Google with Google's name in it.

Youtube feature request: a "mute the screaming MC" button for live sets

One of the decisive moments in my understanding of #LLMs and their limitations was when, last autumn, @emilymbender walked me through her Thai Library thought experiment.

She's now written it up as a Medium post, and you can read it here. The value comes from really pondering the question she poses, so take the time to think about it. What would YOU do in the situation she outlines?

Oh I walked around a cool accessible path loop in one of the nature reserves we visited while mum was here. It was a walkway with a raised curb on either side for tracking the edge, and then there'd be bumps accross the path whenever there was an info panel on the side, and the panel had braille and audio info on the plants in that part of the path.

I saw a post yesterday on reddit about someone suspecting ADHD (they said they were 17) and how to proceed.
People then basically just told them that they should go to a psychologist and not self-diagnose since they are the expert.
And frankly, as being someone with ADHD I totally disagree with that line of thinking and approach. If you truly feel inside that your life is different to the perceived life of others, do read up, do understand what goes on with you, and share it with your doctors!

How the rail press repeats industry puff...

railwaygazette.com/passenger/l

At the moment LeoExpress owns 5 trains that run. 5.

It tried buying trains from China, but that didn't work, and so the order is cancelled.

The *first* question then to ask of a company saying it will achieve significant expansion is then: with WHAT TRAINS?

Now, for good reasons that I will explain later, this paper must contain 8,224 repetitions of the string "~~Q(", another weird flower. Please proceed to Page 3 to continue reading this interesting paper.

... while I didn't count, it sure does have a lot of repetitions of that string.

Your antivirus software may detect this paper as a virus, for good reasons that I will describe later. It is not a virus. ;-)

Consider me intrigued random paper titled "abc compiler" I downloaded in 2017!

re: NL, political repression (possibly)

To be clear, this is very unusual for mail in NL. Mail normally arrives in pretty good shape.

NL, political repression (possibly)

ICYMI: this quarter's issue of a Dutch anarchist organization's magazine has been arriving late, damaged, and/or with an open envelope for tons of people, despite the neutral/blank design of the envelope. It's unclear what happened.

Another day, another report of "millions of Android phones found to contain malware" with no actionable listing of manufacturers/models

influencer voice what's up guys, it's [famous tech reviewer], today we're looking at [some shit that's gonna turn into ewaste in two years]. i'm so excited, it's 8% faster than [last year's version of the same exact shit].

we're gonna be comparing it against [three other versions of the same shit from different manufactures] — not to get ahead of ourselves, but it really packs a punch for its price (conspicuously doesn't mention that the price is what it is because of slavery and worker exploitation)

but before we get into that, a word from our sponsor, [some fucking bullshit vpn company that you're going to let slurp up your data because i told you they're good for your privacy and you have a parasocial relationship with me that turns off your critical thinking skills]

BREAKING: Intel to retire microcode and replace with macrocode – sources

Just a reminder to those that need to hear it...

Neo Nazism is an ideology, not a skin color. Non-white folks can be Neo-Nazis just like women can be misogynists. If a Latino guy has a SS tattoo... He's a Nazi! If a south Asian American has a Nazi flag in a U-Haul...He's a Nazi!

Oh hey! I just had my first social media post to be taken down from any platform ever, on LinkedIn. Yay! My post about the flabbergasting amounts of racism in "AI" violated their "professional" community guideline. Indeed. Its quite professional to be as racist as possible, but not professional to call it out. Totally makes sense.

New update to @apps allows you to turn on media descriptions as required element to publish a post!

It's off by default, so be sure to turn it on

I saw a post earlier that basically said "the software development world absolutely has its own version of antivaxxers" and this feels like it just further confirms it

Like, how could a belief that is so obviously false once you actually reason through it ("ESM is viable for direct use in the browser"), and so frequently disproven by people still using build tools in practice... still become canonically accepted as true?

(See gist.github.com/joepie91/bca2f for the details)

Like, can this fucking myth of "ESM works in the browser" please die already, I am so so tired of it
