Hey, reminder april 1st is upon us.

And well, a lot of jokes aren't actually funny.

Be mindful what you share or do tomorrow.

Hi! This is my first time posting on Mastodon, hope I'm doing it right...

I've recently completed update 1.1 For Xenospore, a strategic puzzle game about defending humanity from an alien corruption.

I've released the game about 9 months ago and worked on the update on my free time since then, so I'm really happy to have finally reached this moment.

Edit: Update 1.1 Levels are from 26 to 40.

roekeloze werkgever, Sligro

Blijkbaar wil de Sligro graag dat mensen ziek naar het werk komen. Daar kun je dus maar beter niet naartoe gaan, nog even los van hoe problematisch dit soort beleid is.

Classic Google, just wake up one day and crush all the Google drive customers using tons of files with no warning (or explanation until months later)

Probably pushed to prod on the way to a meeting to figure out why GCP isn't trusted by businesses.

Because we were looking for more things to do when these clowns decided to write "the letter," and cite our #StochasticParrots paper while saying the opposite of what we write, we @emilymbender Angelina McMillan-Major and @mmitchell_ai wrote a statement in response.

"you know how people usually learn by making mistakes and drawing upon them with the help of other, more knowledgeable people? yeah, let's punish students for making mistakes and ridicule them for asking questions"

For #TDoV, another poll for you! This one is for everyone.

How many #trans people are you aware that you know personally? People who are out and trans, and living their life just like anyone else.

"Know personally" means that you've met them or had a conversation with them, either online or in real life, including people you follow on social media.

Please boost for visibility! Let's see how many people see trans folks in their daily life!

Trans and enby folk are seen as threatening because we represent possibility and openness and acceptance. To see us for who we are would mean working to dismantle existing power structures and hierarchies—and that change is what transphobes are ultimately afraid of.

Anyway, happy trans day of visibility, lovelies. 🏳️‍🌈

it's always #TDoV on Fedi. only full-time dev on Mastodon other than Gargron and lead dev on Glitch? trans woman. lead dev of Akkoma? trans woman. GotoSocial? three-quarters of the core team are trans and/or enby. Calckey lead dev? they/he pronouns. one of the two editors and three of the five authors of the ActivityPub standard? trans and/or enby. dozens of other server, client, and tool Fediverse developers? trans. (including me.) and that's just the code side of things.

cis people: you are on our turf.

Tip for the day:

Any email from a colleague that you don’t like the contents of, simply reply with “unsubscribe”. It’s comically passive aggressive.

You know the saying about how a specialist doesn't get paid for putting an X somewhere, but for being the one to know *where* to put the X, with all the learning that that entails?

It works the same way for responsibility. "They can't be held responsible because someone else could have built the same harmful thing" is a bad excuse - because it's not about building the thing, it's about being the one to use your expertise for it.

We have a mop with a plastic head that covers the mop bit when it's not in use, and it broke recently, so now the mop is leaning against the washing machine with the rope bits hanging down loose and kinda parted so they look like hair around a face, and one of our cats has taken to sitting on the washing machine meowing plaintively at the mop as if wondering why it's not giving him any head pats

asking on behalf of someone: what's a good server/community on Mastodon for non-techie people of color who want a timeline that isn't just a bunch of white techies talking tech?

My mastodon circle is depressingly white, so I'm having a hard time answering that :(

Boosts welcome!

Google’s ghost workers make less than $15/hr and can’t work more than 29 hrs/wk, as 30 hrs worked would mean health and other benefits. npr.org/2023/03/31/1167246714/

"I've always felt like I don't fit," the young woman said.
"Fit where?" the witch said.
"In..." The young person gestured at their whole body. "Can you ..?"
"I can't make you fit what you have. I can make what you have fit you."
"Really?"
"It worked for me."
The young man smiled.

health update, +

This doesn't mean much for my kidneys, but it's positive nevertheless: my vision (likely affected by blood pressure) has been improving again! My left eye no longer has a tilt-shift effect
