i'm coining the term "attention gauntlets" to explain why my email inbox and similar digital environments are so unmanageable for me.

#solarpunk #gamedesign idea:
Survival game where you learn to be a part of an ecosystem and slowly abandon your unsustainable "tech tree" replacing it with sustainable, local solutions.
---
A lot of games are trying to replicate very expansionist core loops, be it Minecraft's, Factorio's and so on, which see the player as a force acting on the environment / ecosystem, not working together with it.
Why not change it?
Coders - sorry, but especially men - please try to be more conscious of how you're phrasing things when in conversations about how easy or difficult concepts are, to people who either don't code or are brand new.
Phrases like, "I don't see why that's difficult to understand," or "that's just obvious," immediately (and often completely) knock down the courage of the person asking for help (or even someone just listening to your conversation).
PSA: Big strike next #Monday in #Germany. There will be NO long distance trains riding. Frankfurt airport (and others too, I am quite sure) will NOT be handling passenger flights. Show some solidarity with the workers and begrudgingly accept this is happening and it is happening for the right reasons. #kthxbai
I once had the unique displeasure of seeing Paul Graham give the worst keynote ever, where his thesis was that big world shattering ideas are like hot women and that the audience was all just impotent little nerd boys who wouldn't know what to do to a hot woman if they were alone together. Then he laid out his oh so big ideas that the audience was simply too cowardly to handle, which I shit you not were things like "replace email" and "make an app so he doesn't have to go to the doctor".
So uhhhh… Fuck Brave Browser, huh?
debts, poverty is expensive
About a decade ago, I was in poverty and, more importantly, deeply in debt. Here's an excerpt from just one of the many, *many* letters I got from debt collectors at the time.
The original debt was 750.25 EUR, racked up because I couldn't afford the (legally mandated!) private health insurance.
(Which, by the way, results in additionally getting fined by the government, but that's a whole separate story.)
After adding debt collection charges, the total came out to owing the health insurer 1971.46 EUR, almost three times(!) as much as the original debt.
Poverty is expensive.
In the process of moving to @joepie91. This account will stay active for the foreseeable future! But please also follow the other one.
Technical debt collector and general hype-hater. Early 30s, non-binary, ND, poly, relationship anarchist, generally queer.

Sometimes horny on main (behind CW), very much into kink (bondage, freeuse, CNC, and other stuff), and believe it or not, very much a submissive bottom :p
My spoons are limited, so I may not always have the energy to respond to messages.
Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
