welcome to scrum, where the stories are made up and the points don’t matter

In case you don't already know, we are not post-pandemic. After a conference in Stockholm, a couple people came down with Covid. At my conference in London, we lost a couple people to it, and the organizer had to Zoom in because she was positive. My conference in Berlin was cancelled...due to Covid. I'd hoped to write something more clever, but please look after your #immunocompromised and #disabled friends -- wear a mask and don't assume it's "just a cold."

normalise giving people a chance to opt-out of christianity related bullshit because I am so tired of it.

it is one of the most violent religions on the planet, people are still currently being oppressed, abused, tortured and killed in the name of christianity, and a lot of us are traumatised by it so maybe just don't assume that everyone is okay seeing any of that christmas bullshit either

also if you're smart in #nginx, please help review my patch that turns on caching to protect against #DDOS by the mastodon thundering herd when a popular user boosts a review from a @bookwyrm federated site. github.com/bookwyrm-social/boo

What was that alternative to Quill for rich text editing components again?

Did you know: Firefox actually has some pretty neat selection capabilities!

For text: hold CTRL to select multiple separate ranges of text

For tables: hold CTRL to select a square of multiple cells, or CTRL+SHIFT to select entire rows/columns/tables

Heck yeah, kinky photos should have image descriptions too. Disabled people are often de-sexualized (it's part of infantalizing us), but a lot of us are goddam perverts. Help us out. ;)

If Mastodon is the promise of the early internet, what would be the Geocities of the fediverse? A service for creating microinstances where you can be as tacky as you want, where you can break shit knowing you only break it for yourself?

I wonder how much of this has to do with the bigger character limits, leaving space for people to actually present their projects *without* needing to capture it into some snazzy marketing slogan soundbite

One of the less obvious things I really appreciate about fedi: I see so many more cool personal *projects*, rather than just "startups" or "side gigs" or whatever other capitalist venture.

Every media player needs a "pause after the current track" button.

fediblock, eris from disqordia

if you need some proof that eris is a unpleasant individual --- make your own choices whether this is #fediblock worthy, but note that i know some instances defederated from disqordia due to the below, among other things:

this thread is cached correctly here, on the external server, but eris' original toots were lost when the old disqordia instance went down

#ArmoedeInNederland

Has anyone built a federated phpBB-style forum compatible with ActivityPub? I would love to be able to participate in #gamedev or #nesdev discussions on something that looks like traditional indexed forums, but with the convenience of using my same account!

for folks who don't know, google specifically has like, the Most Advanced C++ Bug Catching/Mitigation Tools, to the point that they *took over the development of clang*

just using rust instead, even with 'unsafe' parts, completely blew all of that out of the water! holy shit!

obsessed with this article by the Android team. just looking at the graphs it's like "rust go up, exploits go down" security.googleblog.com/2022/1

also holy shit Android has a lot of rust code now

It really annoys me when people go "well, big companies are complicated, they are not single entities with consistent decisionmaking" in response to criticism of such companies and their actions

As if that's somehow a justification, rather than a clear sign that they've clearly grown to a scale where they are unaccountable and fundamentally cannot be trusted, and without ever asking the question of "wait but then how can we ever hold anybody accountable for anything?"
