capitalism & "selling your body"
here's my take: physical labourers "sell" their bodies far more than sex workers do
there's a reason why blue collar unions fought so hard for retirement funds: you work yourself hard when you're young and then all that strength is literally used up by the time you retire. you literally cannot work any longer, and your choice is retire or literally die. so, the companies that used up your body should pay you for the rest of the life they stole from you
companies still like to use up the full extent of people's bodies regardless of occupation, and now that we've got so many service employees, burnout becomes a regular topic. except, in addition to everything else, patience is also spent. stress taxes the body just like any other physical issue, and it's why there's not as much of a divide between physical and mental health as people pretend there is
this is why this broken capitalist system needs to be destroyed and replaced
Ever wondered how many CI systems are involved in Nixpkgs and #nixos? Where they're configured and how they integrate with each other?
I wanted to figure this out and document it somewhat, so here's a blog post about how NixOS is built.
https://blog.erethon.com/blog/2025/07/31/how-nixos-is-built/
Most types of business exhibit linear growth. But VC will only fund exponential growth.
The result: companies that would create a lot of jobs and actually maintain their products never get funded and never start. If you must hire more to make more product, that's unacceptable linear growth.
We live in an exhausting VC hype machine because it's more profitable to repeatedly hype up and cash out of short-term exponential growth spurts than to build something real.

Packing for #why2025 @why2025camp
Yes it's early but I also need to pack all the camping gear, pack an order of magnitude more things for Team:Warehouse, write half of a talk, make 75% of the slides, pick up deliveries (personal and Warehouse), get groceries, and more.
And I leave extra early for the earliest of build-up.
And also somehow eat, sleep, survive, repeat.
would anyone who's driving to #why2025 and/or #nixcon with their car be up for giving me a ride from somewhere near Berlin? i'm currently dealing with a dire financial and legal situation due to my landlord illegally trading me to another landlord which means i now have like 30 EUR left and need 5000 EUR in a month or have sued them until then
alternatively give me money so i can afford food at https://liberapay.com/alina/ but dont feel pressured, i'm trying to find a way to not become homeless again on my own and dont mean to stress others with this,,,
boosts appreciated
@so_treu it's so sad that ignoring this part--where it started--lets people declare victory if the thing that affected them is overturned but sex workers still can't get paid.
I'm sorry but it's getting to the point that I'm started to get irritated because sex workers for YEARS have been trying to raise the alarm about these payment processors and their censorship and how it wasn't going to stop at them, like a solid decade now or damn near
But a bunch of civvies suddenly can't jack off to whatever not based in reality piece of media AND SUDDENLY.
😒
discussion of mh, kink/sex
as a long-time depressive, I've always disliked the idea that consent has to be enthusiastic. if I only ever did something if I was enthusiastic about it I would spend all my time in bed
similarly I dislike when people are so focused on my pleasure. I can't make any guarantees that I'm going to enjoy a thing. sorry! I've got the brain worms.
I am grateful when I can have people around me that trust me enough that they will help push me into doing things, and believe me when I say that I consent to whatever the thing is, knowing full well that probably within the first half hour to an hour or so my brain will finally start behaving and start to enjoy whatever is happening. but it does mean having to push through and just do a thing despite not enjoying it to begin with
(AS ALWAYS, this discussion of consent is solely about me and should not be taken as an argument to erode other people's boundaries or requirements for consent.)
complaining about sex toys and online shops
I swear, the cishetnormativity of some places... 'online drugstore' sells sex toys.
The cockrings are in the "for him" category. The dildos are in the "for her" category. And the anal toys are in... the "for couples" category.
What is wrong with these people?! Just use normal fucking categories that actually describe what the things are!
🪭the strategy they employed, and which our queer elders and ancestors in the US copied, was to focus on local battles and organizing, but to fight those fights in parallel through the nation.
Big wins are built off of small wins. Change starts small.
I would sort of agree with the assessment that one of the failures of the queer rights movement broadly, though not of the trans rights movement specifically, since the 2000s was to overly focus on procedural wins at a national level.
It made sense at the time, but those victories were built off of thousands upon thousands of small, local victories.
And ofc, once gay marriage was legalized, a bunch of people I think started to believe the fight was simply “won” Forever.
But it wasn’t.
If you only watch national news you are missing the real struggle. That struggle is happening just down the street, right now
If you help get a trans person out of an abusive home or get them the hormones they need, that is you winning against fascism
🪭A new cis friend I made on BlueSky found this article on the 1966 Compton’s Cafeteria Riot after I told them about it.
We had a good conversation about the ways in which the black Civil Rights movement of the 1950s and 60s informed queer activists in the 1960s and 1970s
We talk about how Marsha Johnson threw the first brick at #stonewall , which is good symbolism, but I think vastly undersells how much our rights are built off of the success of the fight in the US against segregation, as well as off of the fight for Indian independence

By the way, they offered $160 per hour. Which is less than what I normally charge for expert work!
