Seeing Prorail Incidentenbestrijding parked outside the station when you're about to catch a train, and other foreboding experiences

Another day, another hospital visit

So far it seems like people have only two possible reactions to seeing the WinRAR purse. Either they immediately know what it is, or they think it looks… familiar, but they can't quite tell why. …and one person who yelled "WinZIP" at me.

Firms will no longer be allowed to ‘ghost’ candidates that they interviewed for a job under new rules coming into effect in the Canadian province Ontario.

An update to the Employment Standard Acts will oblige firms to notify candidates about the status of their application within 45 days.

The new rules, which will apply from 2026, will also oblige firms to outline salary details in adverts and disclose whether artificial intelligence is used in the hiring process.

A stranger’s rude question left me in fear of one word

"All this, I later learned, meant I technically qualified as disabled, but I never thought of myself that way.

I remember having this preconceived idea of what being disabled looked like: either you were a wheelchair user or someone who was hard of hearing and that was it. There was no in-between, no grey area."

shocking: unit who has a soft word mute expands a muted post, only to find exactly the type of content that the mute was meant to hide :neobot_woozy:

To all the babytranses concerned about passing:

At some point passing will stop to matter to you as much as it did before. Because your self-worth is not determined by how other people perceive you, I hope you'll cone to that realisation. You are the architect of your own life.

(Secretly this post and its replies are a todo list for me that I can easily find again :blobcatupsidedown:)

everyone has mental categories of "stuff that is too important to compromise", "stuff that matters but you can bargain about it", and "stuff that doesn't matter that much". it's rare to see different attitudes about "purity" in any meaningful way. people put different beliefs and values in the different categories mostly because of what they think matters (not because of metadiscursive values) and then reason accordingly.

Putting out the call: if you own or have ever seen one of the following children's CD-ROM games, I could use your help with something I'm researching. The English versions were mainly released in southeast Asia.

I think we all know by now that "if you're not paying, you are the product" is false - because whether you pay or not, you get exploited either way.

So I propose a different phrase: "if you don't own the platform, you are the product".

CW request: medical topics, especially COVID

Can everyone please CW their posts about medical topics, particularly COVID?

I have somatic symptom disorder and an anxiety disorder around health. I worry so much about my own health that it makes me sick

I need to be in the right mindset for engaging with medical topics, so I would appreciate it if you could use content warnings for them :blobcatflower:

Ended up staying at @revspace for until late at night (like 02:45); info packet packing was done much earlier than expected, but it turns out there was plenty of other stuff to do for team Warehouse

Hey OpenStreetMap people! I am looking for a specific tool/service:

- preferably self hostable
- stores a part of the OSM map (the size would be a 100k city)
- allows adding points and other additional data
- has an admin panel for user management
- is easy to use for non technical people

The background is that my dad is a historian and I had this idea to give him a tool that would allow him to create a map of historical places of our city.

I would handle the technical stuff and just give him admin access to edit the map.
