CW-boost: payment processors, sex work, actionable
Hey OpenStreetMap people! I am looking for a specific tool/service:
- preferably self hostable
- stores a part of the OSM map (the size would be a 100k city)
- allows adding points and other additional data
- has an admin panel for user management
- is easy to use for non technical people
The background is that my dad is a historian and I had this idea to give him a tool that would allow him to create a map of historical places of our city.
I would handle the technical stuff and just give him admin access to edit the map.
#openstreetmap
So, who else is going to #WHY2025 and wants to meet up?
Hi. I'm looking for folks and SWers familiar with the really dark shit that happens in the industry (not necessarily even personally, just knowing about the sorts of things that happen). I don't need a blow-by-blow but since I am working on something that could potentially be picked up by horrible people and used as a tool of exploitation, I would like to have conversations ASAP about how to do things NOW such that this is mitigated/entirely prevented.
You can DM me here, or preferably on signal at zkat.1312.
Boosts welcome!
To be fair, part of the procrastination was because I couldn't settle on whether to make a gts-specific subdomain or just 'fedi' or 'social', because migrating subdomains between software isn't trivial, but by this point I've pretty much settled on "I'll probably be happy with GtS anyway", partly because of following its development and partly because of my needs changing
I vaguely recall hearing about when Visa went after Fetlife. My memory is fuzzy and there's some gaps in the story clearly though. I absolutely recall they nuked a bunch of groups to immediately comply with their payment processor's demands, then when forging a more permanent policy on such things, I think they decided "You know what? Screw them, come what may"
But now that I look at them now, they ban those topics so I guess they tripled back on that?
I was saying elsewhere I knew of exactly one site that told payment processors to go heck themselves when told to ban certain content from their site. Turns out that didn't last, or I misremembered.
Anyone have more detail on that entire story?
@joepie91 maybe that is GoingTooSocial
@joepie91 missed opportunity "GoToSetup the gts instance"
⚡️lest someone read this in, I’m not saying you specifically *must* persuade them. Nor am I saying that we should tolerate bigotry or treat bigots like special boys who get treats.
No. I’m saying you need to destroy their fundamental views about the world.
If you’ve ever had a moment of revelation where everything you believed in collapsed, you know that’s a *far* more devestating blow than swearing someone out.
In the process of moving to @joepie91. This account will stay active for the foreseeable future! But please also follow the other one.

- No alt text (request) = no boost.
- Boosts OK for all boostable posts.
- DMs are open.
- Flirting welcome, but be explicit if you want something out of it!
- The devil doesn't need an advocate; no combative arguing in my mentions.
Sometimes horny on main (behind CW), very much into kink (bondage, freeuse, CNC, and other stuff), and believe it or not, very much a submissive bottom :p
My spoons are limited, so I may not always have the energy to respond to messages.
Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
