Ah there is a DB guy with a delivery of: red lint to close off seats, emergency water and lots of toilet paper. I wish the people on the EC176 a pleasant ride 😅

more context, mark rober

Dude published a video titled "I built a rollercoaster in my lab", when what really happened is that he hired a bunch of well-known backyard coaster builders (Magictecture) to build a rollercoaster for him in a week(!) and they're barely even credited in the video for all the work they've done.

The Magitecture folks themselves seem okay with the arrangement, going by their comments on their own video, but on top of all the other sketchy shit going on around Mark Rober this is definitely leaving yet another bad taste in my mouth. Just everything about the guy feels bad and sleazy.

Another Mark Rober video, another reason to dislike the guy

Perhaps another useful set of thinking tool questions for addressing diversity and accessibility at its most basic level:

Who is not in the room? Why aren't they there? How would they feel if they knew what was happening in this room?

I think that's something that helped me a lot when trying to understand why there weren't more of x marginalized group in a room. If your looking at your workplace, org, community, fandom, etc and you realize there's no Black people there, that bares examining. If you realize there's no visibly trans or disabled people in your vicinity, that bares examining.

I guarantee you it is not because x marginalized group does not share an interest in your profession, fandom, org, etc. There's something keeping that group from joining that room. Ask yourself why that might be. Have you invited them; have you created a safe space for them?

Have you ever been in a space made for this group in question (where allies are allowed)? What differs from that space and the room you find yourself in where they are not present?

What was different about the trans pride event versus your fandom meetup?

What was different about the disability conference versus your office?

What was different about the Black artists group versus your other artist groups on social media?

Next time you're in the office, at the meetup, signing onto that app, pretend for a moment in your head that someone of that marginalized group is sitting next to you and take note of what everyone is saying and doing. Would you feel comfortable with that behavior knowing they were in the room?

Couldn't remember the word 'rearing' so just looked up 'what's it called when your horse does a wheelie' and got spotted so I suspect that one's going to get brought up a lot in my future

Just discovered that the interactive map for already contains all the food trucks... in clickable form, with the exact menus with pricing and dietary information already available! Looks like some of the dietary labeling still needs some work, but this is a great start.

why the fuck does jaws cost more than a goddamn computer. why do i have to call someone on a landline during business hours like it’s 1997 to qualify for a license that doesn’t completely fuck me. why is the only thing between me and a usable system a goddamn dealer. it’s a screen reader, not meth.

This is excellent advice which everyone should take.

It is also the one piece of advice I have the most trouble with.

So many half-finished projects. I can name at least 20 off the top of my head.

Something new always comes along and brain insists on working on it instead. AuDHD is powerful.

It feels kind of ironic that there are tools for automatically generating "changelogs" from Git commits, using the keepachangelog format - when the very first text on the keepachangelog website is "Don’t let your friends dump git logs into changelogs."

this is such a petty thing but I almost relish calling companies that pay for linkspam on Mastodon.

"Hi there! So I run a server for queer BDSM enthusiasts, and I wanted to ask about your recent posting on our site..."
"I'm sorry, what?"
"Well, we had this account join, claiming to be into gay BDSM, and it's posting links to your content--oh, of course you wouldn't do that directly, but your SEO subcontractors..."
"Ah, er, yes, we'll get to the bottom of this"

What virtual KVM for Mac OS do you use and do you like it? I currently use Synergy and I find it super glitchy so I’m trying to scope out alternatives.

Went up the local community cafe today to work on commissions over a coffee.

While I was there I heard them lamenting that the sweet jar labels, which are written in white paint on the glass jars, are rubbing off and looking a bit scraggy, and wondering what to do instead.

Me: Hey! I'm a calligrapher!

Them: OMFG

Anyway they have calligraphed labels for their sweet jars now, will grab a photo as soon as they've laminated them and put them up :)

I hate it so much that covid conspiracies have made ivermectin inaccessible to what it excels at :bowsette_redhead_angry: friends tell me that even going to multiple doctors they can't get a prescription here, even with active infestations.

not that it would be my first choice for this case—oral ivermectin is a proven and very effective method to get rid of fleas and lice, but I'm not sure if the lethality rates for bed bugs is worth it.¹ Thought bed bugs are such a Thing that it may be potentially helpful _in combination with_ hygienising everything. my worry is that the surviving ones contribute to ivermectin resistance. it's only partially effective against ticks.² the standard 2-dose protocol does kill scabies, but there are many other ways to treat scabies, and permethrin only needs one dose.³

in any case I don't know how bad my case is, or even if I have any infestation at all, I wouldn't jump to prescription medication as my first line. I'm in the "wash everything at 90° and observe" stage. but I hate knowing that it's not even on the table now, due to a combination of both assholes trying to treat a virus with an anti-parasitic, the usual arrogance of doctors against Third World knowledge, and misinformed people making jokes about "horse medicine".

So tired of having to check every time I see something "queer-friendly" or "disability-friendly" or whatever, whether it's to the exclusion of otherwise oppressed folks or not

A truly disturbing amount of dystopian tech shit seems to be explainable entirely as "the creator never learned how to process his emotions in a healthy way, and made it the rest of the world's problem"
