SGB Moderation Update
As agreed upon in T225 by the residents, spookygirl will suspend fosstodon.org.
I won't be posting our full reasoning but in short, we have strong concerns about fosstodon leadership's stance on safety and community values, and especially their response to strong community criticism. We strongly encourage fosstodon leadership to reevaluate their approach to moderation and community management.
We are disappointed that we must cut connections with the people on fosstodon that share our values. If you are on fosstodon and do not want to lose your connections with SGB, you may want to either migrate or create an alt elsewhere.
The suspension will take place in a day to give people time to preserve any connections they wish.

@bright_helpings looks at discord and its borderline unuseable light theme
--
anyway, it is indeed down to developers almost exclusively using dark themes, and forgetting light ones exist because they've never interacted with anything besides like, the discord one or something which is half-arsed garbage
although i feel like the Gaming (derogatory) space is also partly to blame, particularly for the whole ableism thing around light themes; i see that way more on like, gaming-centric places and such
--
i can understand only having a dark (or light) theme if your software exclusively has one theme and you don't want to implement a theming feature; although you'll fuck up accessibility for one group or another no matter which you choose there
but like, half the time a theming thing is there, and then it only properly handles dark themes anyway because fuck anyone who prefers light for whatever reason i guess
it's not like it's that hard to do a light theme properly either if you implement themes in a remotely reasonable way; hell, Android for example provides theming support on system level iirc which you can use
--
i feel like the accessibility side of theming in general is forgotten a lot actually
like, there's software that lets you change fonts and such, but then for some goddessforsaken reason does not include a dyslexia-friendly one or a monospaced one, both of which are pretty damn useful accessibility features
and the same pattern can be seen in so many other places too; theming features existing but all of them using colours that don't work with colour blindness and not giving an option to change that, or not letting you change font size, etc.
--
also, mostly unrelated but this reminds me that i should do some fixes to my Blender theme, since i use a partial light theme there
*sadly goes to reset the counter to 0 on the "days since I saw someone shit on the existence of light themes" sign*
I think on average I see this like once a week.
I cannot see dark themes at all. And it's a hell of a thing to see this hostility not just to a software option but to my own existence and qualities as a person who uses this option. Like I've seen people say you have to be a psychopath to use light theme, which is an awesome way to double up on the ableism!
For some people asking about aave. Its not "internet slang", and you know that. If you're white, you are not allowed to do this.

> Lots of people are spending lots of time coming up with potential use cases for products that, quite literally, threaten to destroy everything. Lots of people are extending more intellectual generosity to some of the most well-funded companies in history than they are to their own colleagues whose jobs and funding have been eliminated.

Update NS CAO: NS heeft een nieuw loonaanbod gedaan, en aangegeven open te staan voor onderhandeling over de zwaarwerkregeling. De vakbonden reageren vooralsnog gematigd.
Update NS CAO: NS has made a new wage offer, and is open for talks about the heavy-duty regulation. The unions as of now have given a lukewarm reaction.
"Ah well but the way FOSS projects work doesn't fit into the tendering and purchasing procedures of the government, so they have to hire consultancies"
I literally do not care. It is the job of the government to adapt itself to the needs of society, not the other way around. This is not an excuse. Go fucking fix it.
Instead, we mostly just get governments paying consultancies to deploy and manage these things under the assumption that this "builds a local economy" and helps keep things running, completely failing to understand the underlying dynamics and economics of FOSS projects and what their role in them should be
