Spent 3 days at a workshop with basically only academic computer scientists and it is scary how many fundamental democratic rules and concepts are put up for debate constantly. CS won't save us. Not one bit.

Every year, alongside many others, we observe April 15 as Steal Something from Work Day—an opportunity to reflect on the causes and implications of workplace theft.

This year, we turn our focus to so-called “Robin Hood employees”—those who steal from their workplaces in order to share with others. Loss prevention professionals allege that Robin Hood employees inflict losses on corporations much more efficiently than ordinary shoplifters or employees who only steal for their own benefit.

In other words, when it comes to redistributing wealth, the most effective approach is not to take things for yourself, but to share them with everyone.

You should never feel bad for pushing the overton window in the correct way.

push, push against the dying of our freedom

If you're planning on "burning it all down", you better have a solid plan for all those people and communities relying on the thing you're about to burn down.

also, you gotta remember, websites went down all the time before now. that was just a fact of life before the modern age of the googles and the facebooks and such with giant data centers and 24/7 on call engineers. like it used to be websites would go down for a while and you'd say "well, i guess i'll go somewhere else until Greg wakes up and fixes it"

you see nerds on other websites not understand this. they're like "fedi instances go down all the time". yeah, but individual instances don't matter. your friends are still there. you just go to a different instance. you didn't have to convince your friends to follow you on a different website because they keep going to the same one.

Ubisoft recently open sourced their colorblindess simulation tool "Chroma" (github.com/ubisoft/Chroma).

Well, here is a Godot Plugin version (Editor + In-Game) to make the world more accessible.

(Note: Even though I licensed my code under MIT, the shader code is taken from the Ubisoft project and thus technically Apache 2.0)

infections, chaos, shitpost

with the next big chaos event just a few days away, hopefully everyone has packed their c3 hazmat suit to prevent lice, scabies, covid, the bubonic plague, or whatever is going around this time

Do I know anyone who's familiar with Japanese public libraries? A friend is wondering about how to apply for entry-level shelving positions but doesn't know where to start.

Bluesky didn't reach a federated stage where you could choose a service provider in a free country before they started to censor people based on authoritarian demands.

Fietshelmen zorgen vooral voor meer onterechte fietsangst

nrc.nl/nieuws/2025/04/15/fiets | archive.vn/Laybj

"Elke dag overlijden in Nederland 19 mensen aan de gevolgen van een ‘accidentele val’, meestal ouderen. Bij eenzijdige fietsongelukken (valpartijen dus) komen 95 keer zo weinig mensen om: één per vijf dagen. Dat is inclusief mountainbikers en wielrenners. Met meer mensen, vooral ouderen, die steeds vaker en verder fietsen, is dat eigenlijk ongelooflijk weinig. "

If I was a fediverse admin right now with open registrations (why are you doing that?!!), given the #4chan hack, now would probably be a great time to finally close them down. There's about to be a lot of very angry and lonely trolls looking for somewhere to lash out

Now is a perfect time to stop using memes and language that developed on 4chan

We can throw all of it into the grave alongside them

So... I've seen my fair share of criticisms of "mastodon", and I know a lot of them, and many are valid.

But one that always gives me pause is criticism of the moderation.

And that's because it's often used by people who, frankly, should be moderated. You'll have people shout that "but instances will moderate me" and then you check and yep, it's because they're a bigot.

There's also always that point about how moderation is a mess, and instances constantly block things for no reason and that's just not true on a large scale.

You'll have the occasional case of instances not liking each other (I know octodon had one or two, twoot.site has one or two), but for the most part there is a wide range of post that is acceptable to basically everyone.

#actuallyautistic I and many women I know have a box love. You get things in really cool boxes and you say, I should save this and use it, cause that is a really cool box. In packing up I have found these & needed a stim so I spent hours with a hot glue gun, fabric, left over ribbon, and old DR WHO episodes. created boxes you WANT TO PUT THINGS IN. Packing is hell for autistic and ADHD brains. It is carnage on an epic level. I HAD TO CREATE.
