fascism, actionable on a personal level

A word of advice: if you are a part of any organizations that refuse to do something, anything, specifically because "they do not want to make it political" (or something else that involves the word "political"), *regardless* of what that something is...

Start finding or building alternatives to those organizations. Start doing that now.

Organizations like this *will not* survive a wave of fascism without ending up supporting it themselves, because they are not equipped to deal with the realities of a changing political landscape, and are unwilling to engage with the political consequences of their actions or inaction.

You could in principle try to fix the organization, but in practice this almost never succeeds - these stances are typically the result of ingrained beliefs by a privileged subset of the organization's participants, who will push back *hard* on any attempt to change this, and you will likely just end up burning out.

This doesn't mean that *all* inaction is bad either, of course. There can be legitimate reasons to not engage with an issue, but they must be more nuanced and detailed. If all you get is "politics" as the reason, with no further explanation, that is your cue to leave. Take your labour and energy elsewhere.

#FediHire

shoutout to the guy who delivered more than 200 kg of furniture to us yesterday.

He said his boss called that morning and told him his coworker had called in sick, so he had to do the entire tour by himself.

We had paid to get the furniture delivered into our apartment, but of course I went down there and helped him carry all that shit. I'm not a monster

I hate it when employers don't hire enough people to do a job so god damn much

If I am looking at steampunk stuff you bet your ass I'm checking to make sure they haven't just gone 'fuck it, who cares if cogs can turn anyway'

I DO, KEVIN. I CARE.

Show thread

I feel like steampunk stuff would be pretty cool if any of the cogs and thingamy-bits it's always covered in actually did anything.

Like even if it was just that you could turn the cogs, but instead it's so often a series of them laid out in such a way that even if they weren't simply glued on, they're infuriatingly non-functional

To make some noise for the newly independent wikis, undertale.wiki as well as deltarune.wiki are now live. Congratulations on their successful fork from Fandom!

Even though the community vote on the fork ended just recently, the websites must have been prepared waaaaaay beforehand as they seem to be:
- completely independently hosted
- domain registered a year ago
- Discussions backend uses Discourse, which I don't think I've seen before on wikis?
- There are some kinks to iron out, but the fork seems to be pretty quality.

This was also some very quick reaction based on incoming Deltarune releases.

My utmost respect goes to KockaAdmiralac for leadership on this move.

Also a reminder of getindie.wiki/ existence, Undertale and Deltarune wikis will show up there as soon as the extension gets accepted in browser stores.

NixOS community/governance

Well, at least the SC did *something* against the fascist arms manufacturer recruiting on the forums, but again with the both-sidesism and the seeming deathly afraid of doing anything that might be deemed 'unfair' by fascists.

It's almost as if this is an entirely predictable outcome when you try to emulate a nation state in your governance structure and refuse to settle on any actual value system!

Hello, my friends. I have a different request for aid. I have a trans friend who has just escaped the US, but she couldn't bring any of her stuff along, and she doesn't have anywhere to live.

She's in the region of Quebec City, so any resources we can find to help her would be valuable. Right now she's crashing temporarily with someone, but that can't last. She's waiting on a place in a shelter, but that will only last 3 months when it happens, and may be months yet.

So I'm looking for anyone who knows someone in the region who might be able to help, who has a room to spare while she gets on her feet. I can vouch for her, she's trustworthy and helpful, easy to get along with. I've known her two years. She needs to stay in the region if she's going to be in Canada, because her children live there (with her ex).

There's no money request on this one, just looking for help finding a place she can stay while she finds work and gets settled again.

Thank you. Boosts encouraged.

#Quebec

it may feel like everything's falling apart (and that may be because it is). but please remember (as i'm trying to) that there's still goodness and joy. there are still kind people and caring hearts. there's spring and autumn and trees and bees and cuddly things and blankets. there are snacks!

please remember to take care of yourself and find even just a smidge of joy and comfort today. you are so very worth both.

:bunhdheart:

Sigh....
One of the most important things I have learned about protecting my very precious brain spoons these days is to recognize when somebody is not listening, and to just quit trying to communicate with them.

Matrix

Matrix won't let me leave a room that permanently displays a notification.
Element developers say it's a Synapse bug (github.com/element-hq/element-), Synapse devs tell me that it requires matrix.org admin intervention (github.com/element-hq/synapse/).
matrix.org admins tell me they can't remove me from the room because they "observe very strict privacy policies" and I should ask the room admins to kick me.
The room admins have left (they upgraded the room), and can't join it back to do it.

:LeVarDislike: Housing as an open-air casino for rich people

:LeVarLike: Housing as a human right

Use of a slur that I am okay with using for myself for rhetorical purposes but I know that a lot of queers aren't okay with

What if one of us fags didn't want the cishet sexual repression you call "love" and just wanted to fuck and fuck but also wanted to have basic human rights?

What then?

Show thread

just remembered this screenshot I took of the board being routed, it looks like a lovely small metro system :3

finally came around to assembly this beauty~

oh and trans rights are human rights!

Gah, I hate the "love is love" slogan so much

Just say "respectable gays only" already and be done with it

oddly relatable Dwarf Fortress bugs selection

- dwarves stuck on loop repeatedly picking different boots and socks when they should just pick one and go
- dwarves leaving their clothing articles all over the place
- 'elven spies do not respect visitor cap and I currently have 180 of them, all claiming they came here to "relax"'
- Trade wagons (made of wood) become horrified at violence and spontaneously explode
- cannot order drink at my own fort’s inn—tavern keeper claims “I don’t work here”
- farmer walks to furniture stockpile, picks up an entire bed, walks to farm plot and plants the bed
- magma crab drowns in magma
- dwarves indifferent to being set on fire
- the dwarves who are indifferent to being on fire want to drink from (highly flammable) alcohol stockpile
- tamed wild animals who have killed dwarves in the past continue to kill them and do not act tamed at all, but dwarves still believe them to be pets and ignore the attacks
- animals can develop religion and then get depressed due to unfulfillable need to practice it
- NPCs will drink anything at all that is inside a mug if you offer them a mug of something. including non-liquid objects.
- scouters who are secretly vampires brag about their past kills while scouting
- when a mayoral mandate is not obeyed in time, mayor sentences themself to physical punishment
- babies ride mothers like horsies. as in, they steer them. because babies have no survival instinct the rider and steed just wander around until they starve
- "is it better if they're carried in the front?"— mothers not wanting to abandon their babies would charge into battle with babies on slings. (does not end well for babies.)
- if a building destroyer monster finds a door jammed open by an object, they will politely wait for someone to close the door before proceeding to destroy it along with murdering the dwarf
- dwarves become raving lunatics due to extreme mood swings caused by going outside in the rain
- dwarven poets overuse caesuras and reverse syntax
- babies are born with a strapped knife
- composing music and poetry ignores surrounding enemies, therefore magically teleporting you away from attacks and back to the map screen
- some children have negative age. they're shown headless in the autogenerated portraits, and are impossible to hit due to having negative size. once they age into 0 years they become normal babies
- tutorial mode does not check randomly selected embark location for safety. it's not unusual for first time players to spawn right in the middle of a cursed acid mist or something and die immediately at the "welcome to the tutorial!" window
- dwarves failed to care if you melted down their masterpieces
- musicians never get to playing the costly instruments installed at taverns
- when a musician drops an instrument mid-performance, dwarves never interact with that instrument again
- farm animals do not breed due to being "unwilling to commit to marriage"
- ghosts count as fortress members if everybody else dies. since ghosts only go away if the living memorialises them and there's no more living citizens, this results in an unkillable non-interactive fortress. visitors come hang out with ghosts while plants grow wild.
- ghosts unintentionally make post-mortem citizen petitions that can be accepted. if you put them on a squad their colleagues keep trying to spar with them and repeatedly get disappointed to discover they're intangible
- dwarves get depressed without alcohol. vampire dwarves cannot drink alcohol, only blood. so they grow ever more sad and lethargic as the years pass. (this has been declared not a bug and is now officially part of vampire dwarfdom.)
- mountains wanted to make music, but cannot because they have no instruments and no singing voice. as a result, the universe explodes

(Also, this is the first table I've ever built, I think?)
