anyway it's also always quite funny to look at the fedi profiles of the folks organizing such events because you often find, as in this case, that they posted like ten toots a few years ago and then fucked off - https://mas.to/@Identitywoman - and yet they purport to have sufficient expertise in "the fediverse" to organize a conference on the topic 🤡
in case anyone's wondering why GtS never bothers with these kinds of daft events it's prettymuch because a) we can't be arsed, b) we're allergic to corpo-speak LinkedIn bollocks and don't want to be around it because it makes us too sad to write code, and c) it almost always seems to turn out that one or more of the organizers are shitheads like this
Transphobia
Evidence that Kaliya Identity Woman has promoted dangerous transphobic ideas.

I'm attaching a screenshot from the top of that search.
"why not just use SWAT hand signs or the like"
- a sign language is literally infinitely expressive so you can expand it to fit any needs you might have
- you don't need to learn the whole language to benefit from knowing some signs so it's not significantly harder than learning a domain-specific code
- the number system of sign languages is way superior :p
- many cops probably know SWAT-type codes, maybe also the type of enemy who's into milsim etc. but unless there's Deaf ppl in their family or s/t, it's very low chance that they bother learning it for accessibility
- *you* are increasing your accessibility
concept: a core vocab list like
- numbers
- a few, many, none, gone
- ally, enemy, rando, cop, sus
- behind, front, left, right etc. (+o'clock number inflections)
- coming, going away, staying
- caution, don't look, followed, clear, quiet, hang on, stand up, act natural, look out for, scout, talk (out loud), change topic
- train, tram, car, taxi, bicycle, motorcycle, scooter
- people, adult, child, old, young, male, female, androgyn, PoC, white
- ultra, skinhead, querdenker, nazi
- go, run, call, text, encircle, mace, weapon, spray, bash
learn to sign to fluency, practice regularly with your crew. hm I already know 70%+ of these signs
There is a toddler on this tram and he's so excited to be here. He was excited about his ticket (which he held very carefully in his own hand), he was excited to see the tram coming (but stayed behind the tactile paving as his grownup reminded him to), he's excited now that we've gotten to his destination...
Such an ordinary journey for me, makes me smile to think that this is such a big adventure at the same time.
Okay, it's time. Which linux is the one where it's easiest to install a theme that makes it look like windows 9x? #linux
Bustle is the DBus activity visualization application I desperately wanted.
Thanks #ThisWeekInGNOME!
(I promise it's not my fault; I'm not allowed to do heavy work until I finish recovering from transplantation!)
with different disasters - both natural and otherwise - on the rise, I am looking for recommendations on a radio receiver that would be well suited (also) for in such occasions.
What I imagine - but if you thought it through better, do let me know - one would need:
- AM, FM, DAB (I imagine internet radio is most fragile)
- battery - either easy replaceable or rechargeable
- also work without batteries
- good quality and sturdy
- portable
- world coverage would be cool
You know those shaped-plastic blister packages that a lot of products are sold in, filling up your plastic waste bin? Here's an easy way to (partly) reuse them if you have a vegetable garden! All you need is scissors and some way to label things.
A lot of this style of packaging has large rectangular flat areas of plastic; almost always on the back of the package, sometimes areas on the front too. Find all of them and cut them out, so you're left with a stack of flat, rectangular(-ish) pieces of plastic.
Then just cut those rectangles into strips of about 5-10cm. They don't need to be cut nicely, they just serve as posts for your labels! Then either print labels and stick them on or, alternatively, write on them with a thin permanent marker.
Now you have tags for your plants, without needing to buy a bunch of new plastic ones!
Technical debt collector and general hype-hater. Early 30s, non-binary, ND, poly, relationship anarchist, generally queer.
Sometimes horny on main (behind CW), very much into kink (bondage, freeuse, CNC, and other stuff), and believe it or not, very much a submissive bottom :p
Feel free to flirt, but if you want to actually meet up and/or do something with me, lewd or otherwise, please tell me explicitly or I won't realize :) I'm generally very open to that sort of thing!
Further boundaries: boosts are OK (including for lewd posts), DMs are open. But the devil doesn't need an advocate; I'm not interested in combative arguing in my mentions. I am however happy to explain things in-depth when asked non-combatively.
My spoons are limited, so I may not always have the energy to respond to messages.
Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
