More people need to understand that "psychosomatic" does NOT mean "it's all in your head".
It means, "it started in your head, but *it has now moved on to your body*". That's what the "somatic" part means. It's the brain *affecting the body*.
Frex, a psychosomatic fever still shows up on a thermometer. The person *actually has* a fever, it just wasn't caused by a microörganism. Psychosomatic stress actually raises your measurable blood pressure, etc.
More context:
It's estimated that a staggering 240 million PCs currently running Windows 10 aren't "capable" of upgrading to Windows 11.
As you know, those PCs can easily run any flavor of #Linux. It's a massive opportunity to get people away from Windows (and its increasing invasion of privacy), AND prevent literal tons of e-waste.
#Microsoft recently wrote that TPM 2.0 is a "a non-negotiable standard for the future of Windows." This pretty much confirms it won't back down on its hardware requirements for Windows 11, an OS that is seriously struggling to gain new users (~35% of Windows users) after 3 years.
When October 2025 rolls around and support for Windows 10 ends, this will force tens of millions of people to unnecessarily buy new hardware.
#Linux community: We have work to do.
I'm sure that the WordPress people on here think this is about WP while the Icelanders or those who know me from party politics think this is about the Icelandic Pirate Party.
The main difference between the two is that more livelihoods depend on WordPress while the Pirate Party just got knocked out of Parliament.
It has put into context how a handful of the people I helped start a political party with back in 2013 were occupied with the concept of "founders".
To me, a founding member would be a part of the group of people who were at the inaugural meeting.
But to those who subscribe to the American school of thought, it's a different concept. Usually "founders" would be an individual or small group who intend the organisation to be about them personally but not the values or policies.
The past year or so has taught me that American non-profits have owners.
As in a guy who simply "owns" a community project run by tens, hundreds or thousands of volunteers.
I grew up running and bootstrapping organisations like that and where I'm from, they do have the guardianship of a rotating board, volunteers, paid staff and even the goodwill of well-off members who can co-sign loans. But the very nature of them makes it absurd that somebody would "own" it other than its members.
Can someone with more Wikipedia chops than I have update this page to reflect that it's no longer GPL or open-source since 2022? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Dental
the FBI holding an emphatic position on something for decades despite concrete evidence to the contrary and then getting their ass handed to them does feel particularly bleak when you remember that their nominal function is to evaluate evidence and provide justice based on it.
(yes, I know, quiet part out loud and all that)
"Mooi he." zei mijn tante. Maar ik vond er niks aan.
Technical debt collector and general hype-hater. Early 30s, non-binary, ND, poly, relationship anarchist, generally queer.
Sometimes horny on main (behind CW), very much into kink (bondage, freeuse, CNC, and other stuff), and believe it or not, very much a submissive bottom :p
Feel free to flirt, but if you want to actually meet up and/or do something with me, lewd or otherwise, please tell me explicitly or I won't realize :) I'm generally very open to that sort of thing!
Further boundaries: boosts are OK (including for lewd posts), DMs are open. But the devil doesn't need an advocate; I'm not interested in combative arguing in my mentions. I am however happy to explain things in-depth when asked non-combatively.
My spoons are limited, so I may not always have the energy to respond to messages.
Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
