My girlfriend is looking for recommendations for queer sci-fi books, ideally ones with lesbian space pirates, and I thought maybe I should ask my mutuals on what she calls 'the sneaky commie twitter'

It kind of sucks that "adult toy" is a euphemism for "sex toy." Like sure, those are all well and good, but what about poseable figures that break if you look at them the wrong way, or gunpla, or ESP32-C6 dev boards, or completely impractical computers that beg to be called cyberdecks, or 3D printers, or infrared cameras, or overly fancy drones, or record players and vinyl albums, or anything that still has a floppy drive in 2024?

Reminder that Wikipedia is not objective, it's just subjective by a slightly different metric

dear greybeards out there:

what's an editor feature that you've enjoyed in editors long gone, that you've missed enormously but modern languages and environments just haven't seemed to pick up on?

I'm looking at you in particular, Lisp and Smalltalk people.

"can't" in air quotes here; the patent office is not very good at this

posting good hardware ideas to the timeline so they become public domain prior art and can't be patented by greedy manufacturers and trolls

Does someone know where you can get a template for A6 size zines. We have made some zines on A5 format and printed them out ourselves. One of us writes small stories, often with an anarchist undertone in them. And now we want to print out some of these stories.

Most of us use open office.

This solar eclipse fucking sucks nobody brought their 3DS.

Positive subtoot: supporting good alt text by telling people what you need from alt text

Here's mine:

If there is a publicly recognisable person in an image, please always name them in the alt text.

Calling someone just 'an absolute legend getting arrested' or 'a warmongering arsehole signing papers at a desk' is not useful, it doesn't help differentiate them much at all. Value statements and commentary on the person are fine (she IS a legend), please add people's actual names too.

This is one of my favorite weird mice: a Bluetooth combo mouse and number pad with built in calculator, made by Canon. There’s a button you can use to send the result of your calculations to the computer.

using "???" CWs to make you pay attention to what nonsense I'm saying

hey artists who sell stuff at booths

HOW.

How do you find places to set up a booth?

Indy has fuck all when it comes to art fairs, i found only one that is explicitly queer friendly and thats not til june

what terms do i need to be searching

“In 2023 alone, Canoo had to fork over 1.7 million dollars for the aircraft. The revenue generated last year amounts to 886,000 – which is a lot more than the zero dollars Canoo earned in 2022, but not enough to cover the CEO’s use of his aircraft. Let alone any other investments on top of that.

The private jet is owned by Aquila Family Ventures, an entity owned by Canoo’s CEO. And the 1.7 million dollars just cover ‘aircraft reimbursements’. Aquila Family Ventures apparently also received $1.7 million in 2023 for shared services support in its corporate office facilities in Justin, Texas.”

A friend has just suggested I turn on a humidifier and a dehumidifier to wirelessly transfer water.

:BoostOK:
i should really get my adhd medicated (and diagnosed in the process i guess)
got any doctor recommendations? i'm in southwest germany, willing and able to travel a few hours by train

If you're a psychologist and you work for insurance companies reviewing claims for "medical necessity," I'm going to ask you for two favors:

1. Re-think your life choices.
2. Make sure you're actually qualified to speak to the population you're assessing. If you deny autism testing as unnecessary, I'm going to google you, and if you have no training in autistic adults I am going to tell my client how they can contact your licensing board and report you for practicing outside your scope.

Mede-autisten:

I feel like an important realisation for a lot of autistic people is "I'm not actually antisocial, I just want the right company".
