Time for another round of "is it phishing or is it not?" - guess!

Software usually has extraordinarily high margins. Tech’s nonsense management tactics are contingent on being able to float shit away on a tide of money. You only get away with bullshit software dev, shipping abysmal apps, and constant security lapses if you are making an obscene amount of money

I assume that people who need to know this would already know it, but I am not such a person and did not know it, so I will pass this on from a correspondent who wishes to remain nameless: There's a FOSS menstrual cycle and fertility tracking app named "drip." created by feminist female developers with privacy at its foundation. I'm not qualified to opine about its safety or security but developers say everything stays on your device: f-droid.org/packages/com.drip/

Was sind eure Pflichten?

If you're fortunate enough to be in the financial and class situation to emigrate, you should know it's often a time consuming process — especially getting a visa. If you want to be somewhere else by January 20th you should start now. By the 6th of November there will not be time, especially if there's a sudden increase in demand.

suicidality

Context: I am not actively suicidal, but do have suicidal thoughts that I’m talking to a therapist about.

Are there any suicide hotlines available in Germany that are actually safe for neurodivergent trans people? I have heard trans people having bad experiences with the German hotlines and would very much like to have an emergency plan in place.

starting a cleaning service for people with ADHD. I won’t be doing any of the actual cleaning, I’ll just be calling you at random times to tell you I’m on my way to your house and I’ll be there in about 45 minutes

the thing that always cracks me up about some romantic dramas is how there is a trope of forbidden love and the couple is. white allocishet abled neurotypical man and woman with barely any age gap.

Disability aids are often marketed to larger markets bc economies of scale are real. If you find yourself scoffing at something “pointless” for “lazy” people, it’s probably a disability aid that the manufacturer hopes can be made more affordable.

(I worked hard on the alt text here, it felt important.)

It's only proton if it comes from the valve region of Linux, otherwise it's just sparkling wine

seriously: a lot of “multilingual programming” stuff seems to focus around esoteric languages where all the keywords are replaced with a different language’s keywords.

But what if we didn’t have to go that far? What if the focus was to let folks write in their natural, preferred input method without having to switch to “special” ascii range characters that just won’t look right?

What if we just use the stuff that Unicode is already providing us, like character tags and equivalence rules, to make things easier for folks outside the tech-privileged sphere?

For all you nonbelievers, I’m genuinely trying to make this happen now, because kdl 2.0 is hella scope creeped already so why not

Anyway come join the discussion if you have some thoughts. The most compelling thing anyone said was when @janl said this would bring the language out of the 70s. Let’s explore the space!!

Yes. This is a callout to people thinking that they aren’t doing all they can, or those thinking that they should be doing more for whatever ails you.

Apparently a tweet can age poorly in more than one way...

(Spectrum shut down a few years later. It now only exists as the 'Discussions' tab on Github repositories, which acquired them.)

The TL;DR is that I wouldn't trust anything from "Salvydas Lukosius" or "ss-o" or "z-shell" or "digital-clouds".

At best, they're an inexperienced developer who cares more about looking like an experienced, trusted developer than they do actually becoming one.

At worst, they are some kind of scammer.

I have yet to take a deeper look into the zi source code, but even without that I can safely say the whole project is extremely sus.

So how do you install this?

Well it's easy, you just...wait, you WHAT?

You um...you add a curl directly to your .zshrc. You're sourcing this from the website _every time you open a shell_.

That's gotta be the slowest possible option, to say nothing about the security concerns.
