I am once again reminded of how bootlick-y Android news sites are, reading about how it's "sometimes most necessary to trim down features" regarding the discontinued Assistant features, with absolutely zero mention of the mass layoffs that just hit the Assistant team

I'm seeing folks casting about trying to build their support systems, but not always clicking. Like the structures aren't there yet, lots of people are tooting out to crickets.

So this is a general call out pls share:

1) active tags (or groups) that are helping you connect and be uplifted

2) gaps or struggles ie "I can't find a tag/group for [ ]

3) any tags/groups you are trying to launch

Let's create and consolidate and enliven the tags we need.

I think the Substack discourse is good and that we should really be asking "why are Nazis okay but sex isn't" for nearly everything involving our society.

Also can't help but notice how these organization are virtually never hiring the marginalized folks in their own community who are desperately trying to get by financially, and instead it's almost always random white tech startup dudes with little prior affiliation

apparently there's a new fork at github.com/javulticat/NewPipe which is based on a fork of newpipe which implements sponsorblock and RYD

i also just randomly discovered this through github.com/polymorphicshade/Ne on the last thing that's there (not comment, linked issue)

Imagine calling your "for everyone" dating* app T4T, then *afterwards* looking on the internet what T4T means, and THEN asking queer orgs to please stop using T4T or at least put an ad for them there

I'm laughing so hard rn

*Edit: It's not even a dating app, it's an app where you can offer/look for paid dates

Starship Enterprise implies the existence of Starship Free, Starship Personal, Starship Cloud (Most Popular), Starship Cloud Pro, Starship Cloud Pro PLUS, and Starship On Premises (Contact for pricing).

If you host a #GitLab instance, you should update it as soon as possible. There's a critical security update, including a fix for "Account Takeover via password reset without user interactions". Oopsie.

An electrician had to cut a hole in our drywall and instead of just patching it up, my wife decided to make a little scene with miniatures embedded in the wall. 😂🖼️🤯

Edit: pixelfed.social/@thisfunhouse has some more pictures of the subway and I will post lots more quirky art over there.

New blog post! "Where is all of the fediverse?"

The fediverse is de-centralised, but it still needs to be hosted behind something, in this post I investigate where the most of the instances are, and working around caching proxies to get a better idea of how resilient to hosting disasters the ecosystem is.

grumbling about funding

One thing that will forever continue frustrating me, is how there are certain very institutional organizations behind eg. FOSS projects that are comparatively swimming in money, indiscriminately spend it like they're a startup with cash to burn, and then still manage to run out of it

All the while grassroots community endeavours are desperate for *any* funding at all, and could have achieved more with less than a tenth or a hundredth of the budget, but got absolutely nothing in the process

This is not any one specific organization I'm thinking of, it is happening all over the place

google, DRM

here's something that only recently occurred to me: google's fully homophobic c++ compiler thingy sure is an impressive feat of engineering and it may very well improve privacy in cloud computing, but it actually sounds like the perfect DRM scheme if you think about it

Don't post about your crimes online, have a think about the people that did this then vanished randomly without any warning one day some weeks or months after. I've seen this happen a few times here with hackers and vandals in particular.
Ever wonder where they got to? Don't follow in their footsteps to find out.

Deliveries are still possible, even if there is no parking for cars.

re: grumbling about funding

Like, if you're "competing on the open market" for developers to hire while your community is desperately trying to collect $30 a month to keep an important service running, you are doing something extremely wrong as a project, and that is just one example
