ADHD, medical system
I'm not convinced that ADHD medication should be gated by doctors at all, but even if you insist that it should be...
The job of a doctor should really only be to determine whether it is *safe* for you to try or take it, not to decide for you whether you 'need' it, like is the case now - the only thing that accomplishes is people not getting the treatment they need
FWIW, I love Firefox and it is one of like ... 3 definitively good applications I enjoy on a regular basis (along with Emacs and SBCL and, okay 4, Lollypop as a music player).
But whoo boy, you can tell that the leadership of the org has _for a long time_ had no idea how to generate revenue from its Actual Technopolitical/Engineering Value as opposed to "eyeballs".
great news:
preparations to make StreetComplete available on iOS are now considered complete
"Let's stop talking about preparing stuff for a potential iOS port that may or may not be developed, but ... actually do it! Let's try to achieve a working version of StreetComplete for iOS. It could be a minimum viable product at first, and then we will move from there."

so the "real work" starts now: https://github.com/streetcomplete/StreetComplete/issues/5421
privacy tip for NL citizens or permanent residents
You can request this at your municipality; be aware that they will probably talk you out of it, in my case they said "well this only matters to the church and you arent with a church" (false)
privacy tip for NL citizens or permanent residents
life pro tip if you are a Dutch citizen or permanent resident, you can request 'secrecy' on your personal records at the municipality you are registered at. this means that organisations that don't absolutely must have your personal data will not be able to request it.
according to www.rijksoverheid.nl/onderwerpen/privacy-en-persoonsgegevens/vraag-en-antwoord/waar-vraag-ik-geheimhouding-van-mijn-persoonsgegevens-aan
Have you requested your municipality to stop giving your personal details? It may then no longer give your information to:
- the Interchurch Member Admnistration foundation (Stichting Interkerkelijke Ledenadministratie; SILA)
- Organisations providing care to patients in a institution
- Organisations performing judicial work
- Organizations to which a municipality would want to give personal data based on a municipal ordinance. For example, a sports club or a charity, such as the Red CrossThis seems, in my opinion, to be a good idea in the current times. Especially given the fact that I'd rather not trust the IT of a church or a small town sports club, for instance.
you're taught in english class that poems are like
"A flowerbed amongst the trees
i saw it there beside the bees.
i studied it a minute 'fore
i proceeded back outside for more"
and then you graduate high school and discover poems that are like, a detailed description of the lips of a lover that died due to the government
Nice, the European Union has officially stated that accessible overlays do not work. This isn't news to most of us, but it's always nice to have something official to point at!
YouTube started recommending me some videos about EDC stuff (Everyday carry) and from what I can tell so far it's mostly silly guys getting silly gadgets and trying to justify it to themselves by making it seem like they're serious tools that they might need at any time and it's actually super cool and not at all silly or unnecessary!
No Jarred, you don't need to carry a premium titanium flashlight-screwdriver-fidget-toy-knife combo tool with you every day. It's totally fine if you do! You're allowed to have nice silly things that you like. You really don't have to try so hard to be manly and cool about it though!
I feel like most people would never even fully utilize the most basic Victorinox tbh ^^'
CSAM and tech companies
Between the Stable Diffusion data set containing child porn and the fact that Tesla vehicles' internal cameras record video that's on their servers apparently available for employees to share (keep in mind that minors will take their parent's Tesla out to have sex in it from time to time), there's been a lot of tech companies doing an "oopsie" and creating kiddie porn databases this year
https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2023/12/20/ai-child-pornography-abuse-photos-laion/
CSAM and tech companies (this is sarcasm)
Don't worry though, I'm certain that there will be a raid on the implicated tech companies' server locations and arrests of those responsible for these decisions
Any minute now, of course
Because all you straights actually care about children being abused, right?
And you actually want those laws against child porn enforced to the fullest extent even if you can't use it as a cudgel to make life worse for queers right?
RIGHT?
At the end of the day, moderation is about safety. And to be blunt, far too many moderators here don't know what it is to be unsafe.
Holyyyyyyy, it seems sterilizing vaccines might actually happen? If this ends up working out, it’ll be huge. This would mean vaccines which actually meaningfully stop transmission!

Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
