ARGH

What's a good website for hosting, and writing, stories? I like Word but also want people to be able to like, leave editing suggestions and critique, ideally ON the text of the page they're reading. Google Docs COULD work but doesn't have a side-by-side view which is... I mean *why.*

Oh hey, the bug is back where a different post gets boosted from the one I clicked 'boost' on

(This extra applies to Dutch folks; no, we do not have a consensus culture, we have a compromise culture, and that's why we're dealing with a fascism problem now)

Compromise: finding a middle ground between existing solutions, nobody gets exactly what they want

Consensus: identifying the root cause of the disagreement, and determining a (potentially novel) solution that meets everyone's needs fully

Know the difference :)

Web Platform Baseline, recently re-announced by Google Chrome, does not consider browser support for #accessibility features built into the web platform.

Accessibility is a fundamental requirement for devs (legal compliance, contracts). Yet Web Platform Baseline does not actually cover baseline support.

Moderation litmus test: in a moderation dispute, do you give the benefit of the doubt to the offender, or to the person who has been harmed?

any restaurant where you might have to wait a decent amount for your server or food should do the paper tablecloth + crayons thing

Come to think of it, why *doesn't* the Contributor Covenant say anything about consent or respecting boundaries?

Come to think of it, why *doesn't* the Contributor Covenant say anything about consent or respecting boundaries?

Absolutely fucking sick of techbros and their non-existent understanding of consent and constant overconfidence

A reason to block "reply guys" (of whatever gender) who follow you vs. just muting them or toughing it out because you don't feel like you deserve better: Because they may do the same thing to the people you boost.

This is something folks like me with a (too) high follower count should especially be aware of, but it could happen with anyone. So if not blocking them for your own mental health, consider that you don't want people you boost to experience this.

Here's how the "Ship of Theseus" page looked in July 2003 when it was first created! Since then, the article has been edited 1792 times. 0% of its original phrases remain.

You know, apart from blocking threads instances, there are other options on how to deal with Meta above instance level. The different fedi platforms could decide... Well, to poison the well.

You could program your server to transform outgoing post going towards Threads' servers in whatever you like. From... Making every post to have the infamous white-Zuckenberg surfing picture attached, to transforming every post they receive from your server in a quote from Das Kapital making your instance a honeypot of Marxist theory, to... Nastier things.

So instead of gatekeeping them, we would be gaslighting them. Hmm.

I don't know that there's much point in continuing to patiently explain why people should defederate from Facebook's Threads, to be honest.

This has been explained so many times, the instances who are insisting on federating will almost certainly have had the opportunity to learn of the reasons and act accordingly, even if they claim they "don't see the problem". Many of them have even ignored or misrepresented the explanations addressed directly to them.

I think that by this point, it's much more reasonable to assume that the holdouts understand very well what the problems are with Facebook - they just either don't care, or they believe that whatever (they think) they will personally get out of the deal is more important than those issues.

The demographic distribution among those against vs. in favour of federation is probably like that for a reason...
