school-related anxiety dreams are always recurring for me

Ik zie veel ‘ik stem maar op een partij die verder van mn idealen staat omdat de partij die er het dichtst op staat er niet dicht genoeg op staat’ en ik vind dat jammer

Reminder that the "AI superintelligence" stuff is a red herring to distract us from the real dangers of using AI, which are things like this:

cantankerous activist dissent around current discourse on non-Black poc mixed and non-mixed identity

Also, my non-white culture, Chinese diaspora immigrants to the US can be xenophobic and racist af to both white people and to any other race or culture. I've had older relatives take it as a point of pride to be that way.

This also complicates things like growing up mixed excessively. I've had to explain my identity to Chinese aunties and grandmas more often than I can count (and I'm a technical kind of person, so I can count pretty fkn high). I had to explain myself decades before I truly had any chance of understanding myself.

So tl;dr, I'm pretty familiar with the theory of Crenshaw's intersectionality, along with a lot of antiracism Discourse, through both formal and informal study, and while I do very much agree that white supremacy tries very hard to other as many culture as it possibly can, if you too understand Crenshaw's intersectionality, perhaps don't pontifiicate too far into how my identity works (or doesn't). I'm pretty sure that if you don't have an origin pretty close to mine, you can't even begin to imagine just wtf happens when I walk into a US Chinatown.

cantankerous activist dissent around current discourse on non-Black poc mixed and non-mixed identity

So I'm mixed Asian (Chinese) and I've been reading a lot of pontificating about identity centered around the idea that if one is mixed (white and another identity or collection of identities), because of how white supremacy works, one has no place in whiteness.

I respectfully beg to differ. I think that for white-passing mixed folks, and especially for those of us who come from cultures that sometimes try _extraordinarily_ hard to assimilate and pass and achieve "model minority" status, the reality is way more complex.

Most assuredly, when white supremacy is really and totally in effect, no one who isn't accepted as wholly white is safe. But my ancestors sacrificed the comfort and safety of entire generations in order to pursue the dream of assimilating and becoming acceptable to white people. Some managed it, somewhat. I'm not saying that's the right call. It sure isn't for me. But it inserts an unregarded system of complex layers that get missed by the standard Discourse.

The reason I hardly speak, read, or understand any Chinese at all is due to my father and my close relatives intentionally losing ancestral knowledge, in a bid to make me and my cousins more acceptable to whites.

We had a visiting lecturer last week discussing use of AI in software development. They lost me at quoting GitHub research claiming copiloting is 55% faster and then showing a demo that generates *wrong* week numbers. Onejan (1st of January) is not how week numbers get calculated.

Writing wrong code fast is not a positive trait. Accepting - and leading large audiences to accept this - is making me angry.

Und sie werden auch bei Nacht und Regen nicht abgeschaltet.

Remember everyone, when a job is so low paid the government has to top it up via benefits, it's a direct subsidy from taxpayers to shareholders, and from the poor to the rich.

re: Eugenics

@FediThing@social.chinwag.org they don't (and refuse to) understand that is a fundamental component of eugenics. And before I say anything else, @Wolven@ourislandgeorgia.net is dramatically more qualified to speak on these topics than I am. I can only share personal observations about their thinking:

They see only "improvement." As in, "if we had enough data we could improve humanity by curing, say, autism." They don't see that as killing slowly because they can't fathom that the neurodiversity is a
good thing. They were raised to see people as fungible with machinery and so therefore anything that deviates from their expected norms is something to be solved and it's fucking disgusting.

Oh. Looks like people are (once again) figuring out that silicon valley and effective altruism and longtermism and the rest are all bound up root to ass with eugenics and white supremacy.

So: Welcome to the party; there are a LOT of academic, researchers, and people witj direct lived experience, already here.

:Trek:

Strangely, this mistake is also the one that techbros are trying so hard to get us all to make regarding AI

The problem isn't the hypothetical "it might create a superintelligence somehow!" (a eugenicist concept btw)

The problem is that it's being weaponized against entire groups of vulnerable people already

Appreciating that Star Trek has had a pretty consistently anti-eugenics stance since the 1960's

But also wishing that the writers of Star Trek had a firmer grip on what the moral problem of eugenics actually is

Reason why Bankman-Fried should be in prison: All that weirdo eugenicsey bullshit that he was really really intent on transforming into de facto public policy
