Anyone know if anywhere sells PLA filament in that "old computer beige" colour?

small capitalism vent

The only way for a platform like YouTube to be sustainable is one thing, and one thing alone:

government/commons funded platform that allows people to upload and download videos freely (only regulating actual abuse), potentially with some limits on video length or such for moderation reasons, but otherwise just a free usable either centralized or federated platform (i.e. large per-country instances, but you can always self-host) such that people without the resources to self host can still participate on account of the commons who actually watch the videos
an economic model that calculates with people actually doing something they like doing for the greater good or self-fulfilment needs without requiring people to make big buck, for instance UBI in a way that allows you to have food, utilities, rent and stuff – the basics – plus something extra on top to pursue self-fulfilment on a small scale

The idea that you need a sponsor or get money for doing it otherwise to sustain you doing something that others enjoy, but your art requiring disproportionate amounts of time to create vs. to consume is flawed, because under capitalism it's virtually impossible to fund other people's work in that way even on a larger scale (i.e. if everyone dumped half their salary into Patreon, Ko-Fi, and friends).

(Why I consider it a hackjob: it does weird stuff like referencing yarnpkg, which is just an npm mirror, as an authoritative source; and then it doesn't even link the real package, but some random fork that approximately nobody uses)

Question about HRT patches, slight panic

Does them being crinkled up with like lots of lines even if they are/feel firmly attached on the skin make them less effective or is that okay?

Like, don't get me wrong, it was a legitimate problem, but the emphasis here is on "was" - it was discovered and publicly talked about years ago

That Unciphered article about the supposedly newly discovered Bitcoin wallet vulnerability sure looks an awful lot like a cheap marketing hackjob that tries to recycle and rebrand an old and documented security issue to drum up press coverage...

"JS is definitely not known to be secure in computing", says the guy running SLES with ancient EOL versions of software that haven't gotten any security updates for years

I swear, Enterprise Linux users...

In response to the ongoing Israeli genocidal war on Gaza, and taking inspiration from similar initiatives in New York and London, sit-ins are taking place across the Netherlands in the days ahead. The sit-ins aim to address commuters, raise awareness, and keep the pressure up on the Dutch Government.

✊ Join us! Meet in Schiphol Airport, Tuesday 14th Nov, 18.00.

📌 We meet inside Schiphol Airport Plaza, near the main entrance, at the check-in gates for the trains
📌 We aim to keep the sit-in at least for 60 minutes, possibly longer, depending on energies. Feel free to leave at any point, when you need / want to.
📌 Our safety and strength will rely on our numbers, so it is very important to be present at 6PM and not come later, if you can, so we can start the sit-in with as many people as possible.

It's definitely going to take some time to get used to coming downstairs and not running into the cat there...

"Just stop using YouTube instead of waging an ad blocker blocker war and use other services"

Okay. What services? Peertube? A network with an amount of traffic that is a rounding error compared to YouTube's and has no monetization strategy?

Nebula? The video streaming service that is invite only and which sources new talent to invite specifically from YouTube? The service that has set up a model where it is dependent on YouTube and can only really survive if YT is thriving?

Vimeo? The site that has sent creators of popular videos bills of thousands of dollars for "taking up too much bandwidth?"

Which video streaming service is viable for new and unknown video makers building an audience and established ones who do it for a living and everyone in between? You can't answer that question because *no such service currently exists*

Why is it always that people like me have to be tolerant of people fucking up and being assholes but it's ok for the assholes to be assholes 😬️

And no I'm not talking about identities or bigotry or stuff like that just, regular ol' assholery

I just found a recording from when I was a lot younger in which I made up a "scam" where you could only buy a product for a week, then you had to buy it all over again because it would break itself if you didn't. Kinda sums up current day subscription services, TBH

stories (3), re: pet death, emotional, long

She always trusted me a lot. If I pushed her over, she would let herself fall over, trusting that I would catch her with my other arm or against my leg or so, for cuddles.

Likewise, she was fine with me touching or holding her paws; this became especially helpful in her last two years or so, where she was increasingly having trouble controlling her claws, and I often had to 'unhook' her claws from some bit of fabric.

That trust goes back a long time; when I first met her at a then-partner's house, she came up to me almost immediately, something that she apparently never did with anyone else.

I still don't know exactly why she made that decision.

Reasons I decline to review an academic paper in order of frequency (estimated):

* Your review manager site is too broken to function and I'm not going to try more than 2-3 times to log in, sorry

* Your journal has done something very fucky to me personally and I DO NOT FORGET

* Your journal has done something very fucky to science itself

* Bad luck re: timing (won't have time to do it properly before deadline due to other commitments)

* Other reasons relating to the content of the paper
