Some other juicy bits about the #Cloudflare outage:
- No 24/7 (experienced) technician availability at the datacenter that hosted their control plane(!)
- No end-to-end service dependency tracking or diagrams
- Therefore, supposedly HA services depending on non-HA infrastructure
- Even if the "redundant" setup *did* work (it didn't), all three locations would be physically within *the same earthquake zone*
This is absolute clowncar level network administration, frankly, for something the size and importance of Cloudflare.
🤔 Cloudflare seems to actually have pissed off the HN commenters this time
I heard there's this well-tested distributed network routing protocol, that is extremely resilient to provider failures. I think it's called BGP - perhaps we should all be using that instead.

#AskFedi: Anyone have any suggestions for complex logistics games that aren't just busywork? I liked a lot about Airport CEO, but every mechanic was *just* too shallow to provide a real challenge, and there was little variety.

In a world where everything has to be a side hustle, or a potential business idea, or a way to develop skills to put on your resumé, it can be hard to let yourself start a million projects and never finish any of them. Or to spend hours of effort actually finishing a project that explicitly has no use or value beyond "I think it's neat".
But sometimes that's exactly what *you* need to get through the week. Don't worry about it

That's the thing I'm trying learn now is when, and under what circumstances, I need to self regulate and when I should let my brain do whatever the hell it wants to do.
And not just whatever the hell it wants to do, but also without judgement. I can't get upset at myself for switching between multiple projects, or scrolling social, or even hyperfocusing and spending hours on something that looks a lot like "work".
It can all count as relaxation as long as I'm not forcing myself to do it.

So often I used to get so mad at myself for "doing nothing" (being on social, or roaming the web, exploring a new project idea, etc) all weekend instead of making progress on an existing project or something. Now I understand that happened because I had no energy left for self regulation. I was never actually letting myself relax.

One of the things I've been relearning since being diagnosed with #ADHD is how to relax.
For people that struggle with executive dysfunction, relaxing doesn't just mean doing a "relaxing activity" or something enjoyable. We can't always unwind by reading a book or meditation or whatever.
We spend a lot of mental energy keeping our brain on a short leash to get things done. For us, relaxing means letting go of the self regulation and letting our brain run free for a bit.

I do love it when app developers put #accessibility related settings behind a “pro” subscription. No, I’m not going to pay you $5/month so I can read text in your app.
Especially since your app is already ignoring my system wide font family and size settings. On iOS. You have to go out of your way to make this not work and/or you didn’t consider this when you picked your framework. And neither did whoever developed said framework.

Het openbaar vervoer is momenteel voor veel mensen te duur, en de kwaliteit van de dienstverlening laat erg te wensen over. Lijnen worden ingekort of geschrapt, er is te weinig personeel, en meldkamers blijven onbemand. Juist voor rolstoelgebruikers is deze aanwezigheid van personeel cruciaal.
BIJ1 is van mening dat het goedkoper maken van het openbaar vervoer voor de 'armere bevolking' niet voldoende is. De bureaucratie rondom het bewijzen van armoede houdt de ontoegankelijkheid in stand. Vooral voor mensen die ongedocumenteerd zijn. Wij pleiten voor een breuk met winst boven mensen en roepen op om het openbaar vervoer gratis te maken.
