- LBA2 *will not* run if it's launched from "C:\", so you need to make sure that it's within a subfolder from the perspective of DOSBox. In EmulationStation, that means running something that is one folder up from the game (it doesn't have to run *successfully*) and then navigating to the correct executable from the menu, or presumably you can also use a .bat file to do this.
No Google, proxying via your servers is *not* improving user privacy (and is making anti-abuse more difficult for the rest of us..!)

I have been trying to get Little Big Adventure 2 running on my emulator handheld, and uh. Does it count that I can get it to display the "please insert the CD" screen?
What I've learned so far:
- There's DRM in the original release, that checks for the disk label+contents.
- The widely available no-CD cracks only seem to patch the Windows executable, not the Linux one.
- The current 'original' version on GOG is not, in fact, the original version; it is a patched executable that only works on Windows.
- The *previous* release on GOG (no longer available for purchase) *does* use the DOS version; I was able to grab it from a torrent.
- Against my expectations, the old GOG release *doesn't* patch out the CD check - I'm currently trying to figure out how this ever worked, given that I see no evidence of a disk image getting mounted in the GOG release, and it *must* have worked at some point if they were able to sell it.
- All of this while I *do*, in fact, have a legitimate disk of the original release, but... good luck inserting a CD-ROM into a modern handheld, and I don't particularly feel like fucking around with mount scripts either...
Anytime someone sets a feature as a non-default, I assume 95% of users never touch it. When they put it under the “Privacy” settings menu, I raise my expectation to 99%.
But Privacy -> Settings -> Advanced, wow. That’s like putting it in a disused lavatory in the basement of the town hall, with a sign that says “Beware of Tiger.”
the most 2023-internet thing is that when you google "public domain icons" you mainly get sites which offer commercial or limited-use icons, but you get their icons that show the idea of "public domain".
lots of copyright symbols with a big NO symbol over it, available to license for limited personal use for 5.99$ a month
During the chit chat beginning of a virtual meeting someone, when asked how he was, said "I've had a bit of a violent flu" and the person leading the meeting said "A lot of people seem to be saying that lately! There must be something going around."
Yeah I wonder what that could be!
There are so many good reasons for using CWs, here are some of them:
- Giving people a choice whether to engage with content that might trigger traumata or unpleasant memories (e.g. sexual assault, war, sickness and injury, ...)
- Giving people a choice whether they want to be confronted with specific content at a specific point in time (e.g. food when you're hungry, your favourite TV series or video game when you're at work, ...)
- As meta-info, clarifying that your post is ironic, a quote, a reference...
- Keeping very long posts hidden on your followers timelines until they decide to read them
- Giving people a choice whether to engage with content that might be of little interest to them (fandom, niche interests, convoluted academical talk, technobabble, ...)
- Making the timeline more accessible for folks using screen readers, e.g. when using a lot of emoji
isreal

i am already angered and horrified by the ongoing genocide that apartheid isreal has been committing. but these "Queering the Map" entries have absolutely destroyed me. this is who white queer and trans people are leaving behind when they dehumanize palestinians and fall for israeli pinkwashing. if anything, please see palestinians as humans with a full spectrum of emotion and life. the genocide and occupation must end.
It is often hard for me to switch tasks. Especially when I get into a hyperfocus state. 🧘
I've always struggled to explain to others why it is so difficult. 🤔
“Tendril theory" by Erin Human explains it really well.
