"De foto-herkenning en waarschuwingsbrief na een klimaatdemonstratie op Schiphol roept veel vragen op. Justitie gaat een grens over door zonder waarborgen burgers te koppelen aan een strafbaar feit."

I guess I wasn't really cut out to watch movies or shows. I'm just bored about 99% of the interpersonal drama. Just get to the plot god dammit

Why can't we have a detective show that's just about solving a case, or a sci-fi show just about the science

Probably none of us who spent a lot of time there like to admit it, but Twitter was in many ways massively multi-player online game for news/policy people.

And by introducing what were essentially for-fee cheat codes, Elon broke the game.

I don't see a lot of tech reporting reflecting this reality, and that's unfortunate.

I hate how shopping for soft drinks has now become a spoons-intensive chore for me, because a couple major manufacturers decided to start adding sweeteners to their regular products with a horrible aftertaste that I cannot stomach

Curious if anyone else with #ADD or #ADHD does this thing where you take on just a bit too much because paradoxically it can help you focus? I call this "medicinal overwhelm". I just signed up for some medicinal overwhelm - it may be a bad idea, I'm not sure yet. I enjoy the starts of experiments like this. So much potential! Will it be Regretful But Wiser? Or will it be Triumphant Otter Stayed Afloat?

WE SHALL SEE!

if your post gets to fosstodon.org, your server monitoring gets a new metric: reply guys per second..

"show me an example component where @scope can't just be done via a web component instead" is a really frustrating ask.

Because the answer is: every piece of every design system or web app I've ever built. Just the fact that you're asking tells me that providing an example won't actually answer your question because you're clearly coming from such a different problem space that my entire approach is foreign to you

Apropos of nothing—a company may hypothetically find themselves between a rock and a hard place when said company has little-to-no resources to invest in a framework but relies on revenue from enterprise customers depending on that framework.

In fact, this hypothetical company may even publicly overstate the resources they are investing in said framework to protect that revenue.

I’m glad this is not what is happening.

had a short discussion yesterday about regretful browser decisions made back in 1993

"... and do you have any questions for us?"

Yes, do you have any people working at the company that use toony animal avatars as their Slack profile pictures?

Bahn Moment

I still routinely see people struggling to get to grips with Mastodon, and they're always using the 'official' apps - so, once again, the official apps are under-developed and not fully featured.

Instead, try pinning the browser to your home screen where it will function as a full web app and give you the complete masto experience.

There are also myriad community-made apps that have been around far longer than the 'official' apps; Tusky, Mona, Ivory, Toot!, Ice Cubes, Megalodon and more.

there are so many polyamory flags. they should all date

Reminder to all who might need it: Not all yaks need to be shaved by you. It’s ok to ask someone for help who has experience with this type of yak. And if you can, it’s also ok to pay someone to shave your yak.

One of my colleagues has been "invited" (bullied by her boyfriend who doesn't want to go alone) to go see "wrestling" this weekend. She knew nothing else about it but our boss googled and of course it's some AEW stadium thing.

Our boss (the other dude on the team) and I described to the rest of our team (all young women) as "violent ballet" and "a soap opera for boys."

I'm so glad there's no, like, blokey/lad/boring mainstream masculine culture at my job. :)

CW: politics, Right to Repair

I find it really shitty that the #RightToRepair act is excluding game consoles. It shows how mighty the lobbing still is when it comes to modifing tiny bits of such bills. I mean why does a game console need extra threatment to say a phone? Exactly: none, the exception is only there bc nintendo, sony and microsoft have pulled silently their strings to ensure they don't need to fear that people do with their consoles as they please.

Great quote from Debt: the First 5000 Years

"Any system that reduces the world to numbers can only be held in place by weapons."

Going to have to have a long soak and think about how this relates to the quantification drive that underlies much of scientific research.
