Oh hey, this is cool, let's check this out (Credit to @drewtoothpaste for the original place).
EDIT: Everyone wanting to be pedantic, please shut up.
if you're thinking about showing solidarity with striking creatives by canceling subscriptions or not watching stuff, there's two problems with that
1. The strikers haven't asked for that, and
2. They are still getting residual pay for that stuff
there's not a whole lot you can do here, except be vocal about supporting striking workers. That's always a good idea.
Turns out that yeah, there *are* actually legitimate reasons for object creation to be async sometimes
"But in case that wasn’t enough of an iPhone vibe for you, the other big update that comes with this public beta is that you can now put widgets on your desktop. Widgets! They intelligently tint based on the color of your desktop, and they’re available for various Apple apps, including Safari, Contacts, and Podcasts."
lol, Apple reinvented desktop widgets on macOS
fedi tip about following people and boundaries
#FediTip for new folks: You can make private posts on unlocked accounts and public posts on locked accounts.
Because of this, there is no guarantee that seeing someone's post means you can follow them - check out their bio and see if they have a lock icon next to their username (genuinely no clue if and how it's conveyed to screen readers, and I can't check right now), and if they have any specific boundaries - things like "Don't follow unless I know you", "DM if you want to follow", or "follow requests welcome" are common, and give you an idea of how to interact.
Also, at any given time, about 90% of the functionality works, but it's a different 90% every time
Like, this thing will automatically open a browser for you and click a CAPTCHA and capture the resulting key and use it to automatically resolve a listing of download links and then grab all the different download sources and check each of them and fetch all their metadata and load-balance requests between them
And then for some inexplicable reason there's no "just download the thing from my clipboard" button, and it explicitly asks you to confirm that you want to continue downloading the file even though one of the many mirrors is unreachable (which doesn't matter)
Just... what
Hey cis folks, just a little advice. If someone reveals to you that they are trans, describing your processing as "mourning the past-you" feels really not great. I'm still right here. I'm still me. It's just a change in context around me.
And in the trans community there are lots of folks we have actually lost early that deserve to be mourned and remembered.
Processing is fine. it's big it's messy it takes people time. But coming out is a moment to celebrate and welcome and love, not mourn.
Also, want to bet that "enshittification" is going to be used as an argument for "reasonable capitalism" or some other such nonsense, which seeks to "curb the excesses", ie. prevent privileged folks from getting harmed by it while doing fuck all for anyone else?
re: rant, people boosting screenshots of fash tweets written by fash
like, you think you're followed by fash who see this 'own' and they're like 'oh shit they're right, how silly of us, we should stop being fascists'?
no! fucking bellend!

Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
