Can't help but wonder whether the pro-Facebook admins realize that they're gonna be un(der)paid sysadmins for Facebook if they end up federating

I can tell that Matrix got more popular because nowadays I see more Matrix encryption memes than OMEMO memes.

name change things

It's annoying how many things you sign up for where they don't ask for legal documents at sign up, but then when you want to change your name, suddenly they need ID.

Feels deliberate and I hate it.

lol one of the founders of neopets joined the /r/neopets discord server to shill his new crypto thing and when nobody gave a shit he went "i fucking hate neopets" "wish id never made it because of this chat" and posted a picture of him flipping everyone off

"But small creators deserve a viable advertising business model" is not the moral statement you think it is.

If you care about small creators being able to viably do things, you will do the correct thing, which is work to implement UBI.

Or overthrow capitalism.

But we can start with UBI.

@studiofox this^

I think that's a symptom of looking at the fediverse the same way we do at a corporation. corporations need quick, large scale, growth to ensure that their platform is commercially viable.

this does not reflect the growth needed for a healthy community in the slightest. the fedi won't get disbanded by shareholders if we don't grow. it doesn't matter if there is 50 000 or a billion fediverse "users"

what matters is that the fediverse can organically scale in a way that maintains the integrity of its core values. anything that acts against this is counterproductive to the project as a whole and should be rejected by the community

#SolsticeSchool is open for sign ups! It's an 'an informal online conference covering a variety of topics' hosted by the scholar.social instance.

See solsticeschool.scholar.social/

I have it on good authority that they'd love a Bob Ross style tutorial from someone on .art - anyone up for the task? Presentations are 10-15 minutes long with time for talking and questions after.

Sign ups close on the 1st so if you want to present, register soon!
